Yeah, it's "great," in fact, it's my #2 all-time favorite. But why don't you tell us why you like it.
As for myself, I like the whole "slice of life" approach. True, a lot of these situations are outrageously written out, but I feel it still does an excellent job of keeping them somewhat realistic, thanks to good character devlopment and interaction. It also helps that the voice acting is very good (in Japanese, anyway).
And while a lot of people find Onizuka's facial expressions to be hideous at times, I find them uber-funny to look at and feel they bring out his personality, perfectly.
There wasn't a single episode where I didn't laugh myself to tears. So yeah, it's one of the "greatest" anime out there, indeed.

You couldn't said it better Tony.
GTO has a supperb blend of comedy, drama and slice of life. Onizuka is a interesting guy and never gets you bored. Totally insane teacher, but very likable character.
If I had a teacher like that in High School that would have been GREEATOO!
Hey tony, I'm in process to start watching all 96 eps of Kenshin. Lets see if it can top into my top5 list. Muahaha

Ahh...I love GTO! That is where I got part of my sign name here.
I think it is great to see how Onizuka deals with events/tragedies/problems when they confront him. But the thing I didn't like about the Anime version is the ending.

SuperOnizuka, I hear many times how the ending was bad in the anime version(made up completely) but the whole series is so "perfect" that I only have good memories about GTO at the end. Ending became meaningless somehow and GTO needed to end anyways. What kind of ending would you have in mind if I might ask you?

yeah i know what you mean, i watched all of it except the last two episodes and i didn't really need an ending, the downside of the series is it's trying too hard to be inspirational at times, it kinda makes you embarrassed for the characters.

Tis the best anime, and most normal series I've seen thus far. Evangelion and Lain really screwed me over. I love the character development and most of Onizuka's super-demented face expressions! True the ending did suck, but seeing that the last episode was the 43rd, why can't they make it 52 or something, in conformity with other anime series. They could've dragged the whole Miyabi thing on an extra 2 episodes. However, I'm guessing they're leaving it up to the Manga to finish off the story with detail.
I'm reading them right now! (though they cost AUD$21.00 each.. )

Something with a better closure with Miyabi. If you ask me, Onizuka taking the blame for an act that neither committed to save Miyabi's butt did not bring closure. If so then, his leap into the hotel window to save Miyabi and her cohorts would have been a much better way to heal up wounds. But then again, Onizuka's leap into hotel room was in the manga, not like the arrest scene.
It was very rushed at the end. Two episodes with really fast pacing from teacher being stabbed, to Miyabi being blamed, to board getting involved, to Onizuka taking the blame, to Onizuka ending up in America. Really too fast.
Which brings me to another thing. How or why would Onizuka be in America? Sure he may fit in, but there?
I would have liked to see the Mayu arc, Urumi versus Miyabi arc, the redemption of Teshigawara (I really wanted to see this one, where Onizuka redeems Teshigawara. I would have liked to have seen those before the anime version ended.

I'm about 1/2 way through the series on DVD, and I'd have to agree. I'm loving Onizuka's crazy faces, and how he can turn any situation into an excuse for cosplay. I like how Onizuka can be a perv and screw around with the students, but then be a stand-up guy when he needs to be, and allways teaching life lessons in the end. I liked the music, until the changed up the theme songs, but I'm deffinately getting some Doogie Howser flashbacks. I also love the vice principle - MY CRESTA!

Well, I think "Hitori no Yoru" is a great song, and it especially fits during the 2nd half of the series as things are just a tad more serious, but still as wacky, nonetheless .

Yeah, Yuuichi Nagashima does a particularly good job playing guys with spazzy personalities .

Really too fast. | It was as though they wanted to squeeze in as much as they could before the series ended. For someone who had not, at the time, known any other ending, it still seemed a little too forced to me.

The redemption of Teshigawais one of my favorite parts to the series as it took a character I could not stand and by the time it was over, I understood him a little bit more.

thanks SuperOnizuka. I guess you're right with some points afterall.
Do you guys think that there could be more episodes out once the manga is complete?
For those who liked Onizuka's face expressions I highly recommend another great anime called " Golden Boy". You won't regret it.

Unfortunately I doubt it. With the ending they had where Onizuka somehow went to America, (I thought he was always broke but how does he afford a ticket to go overseas??) that pretty much was the killer. If they wanted to to back and adapt more to the manga, they'd have to completely disregard the made-up ending. I too want to see Teshigawara's redemption and the Female Magic Users Club. It would've been hilarious! Too bad they left out Ms.Daimon's entrance too and along with the angels. It certainly would've twisted the whole series including Onizuka himself. I'm only reading the Mangas now, and they're bloody expensive and rare since I live in Australia. I can only get them in one shop in Melbourne. AUD$22 is rather expensive per book and there are 21/25 books so far... I only have 6. (12,13,17-20)
