I recommend Stellvia, based on that the series was directed by Tatsuo Sato, who also directed Azumanga and another anime series some users are suggesting, Nadescio. Like the aforementioned titles, Stellvia also focuses on the relationships between the characters in a clever and charming way; plus it's also set in a school - only that the Stellvia is in outer space.

Out of these three the only one I've seen is School Rumble, but I found the first two episodes to be pretty entertaining. It's sort of a refreshing romantic comedy as compared some of the other titles of this genre that I've seen in the past. |

For equally idiotic and goofy humor, go no further than Bottle Fairy.

Yea, i've seen School Rumble through 17. Very funny series. I don't know if it's as funny as Azumanga Daioh. But i still really enjoy it and look forward to every ep to be released. To me its one of the closesed series to Azu.

Idiotic anime (Love Hina, Excel Saga, Azumanga, School Rumble) seem to be the most popular theme among anime fans. Why is that? Oh because more complex and philosphical shows are too complicated for most anime fans.

So what's with this random high-and-mighty act? |

Sorry if I offended a show you like. I just dislike off-the-wall type comedy, thus the fans that rave about it becomes annoying too. Perhaps I'm having that DBZ syndrome when everybody was raving about how awesome DBZ is. Midori on the other hand is an excellent comedy. Shows like Fighting spirit and last exile seem to be less than these type of shows. I can see another Negima craze coming soon. |

Azumanga Daioh is not idiotic, my friend; and I enjoy watching more complex and philosophical anime as much as I enjoy anime that are simply a pleasure to watch. |

If it was just the show, I wouldn't have said anything. Rather, you took an arrogant shot at fans of the show by saying they're essentially dimwits (and wording it as if you thought you were superior to them). People that enjoy Azumanga Daioh or School Rumble aren't smart enough to partake in an Utena or a Haibane Renmei or a Boogiepop Phantom or a KareKano? Wow...I must be doing something very wrong, then. |

Some of those Moronic anime is quite complex though, Excel in particular.
Yeah I can never get the name right. I haven't laughed so hard at an anime as I did at Cromartie High School. spoiler[Love how only 2 guys realize Mechazawa is a Robot. ] |

I haven't seen enough of Azumanga to make any reccomendations, however, what I've seen, I like, although the show appears to be pretty crazy. The only other anime that I've seen (and it's a relatively small list) that comes close to the craziness is FLCL.

Well, point me to a complex and philosophical anime comedy. Love Hina is pretty stupid, I agree, but Excel Saga works off of parody, School Rumble plays off of the art of coincidence (and having not seen the later episodes where it gets really dramatic) and Azumanga ties together a lot of Japanese cultural humor. In answer to the original thread, I think Sensei no Ojikan ties together pretty closely to Azumanga. |

Hmm...I can't believe no one's mentioned Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha) yet. If you want insanity, it'll do you well.
It's finally coming out in the US. I'm so excited! |
