This was a series that I watched week-by-week when it was being aired last summer--one that I seriously enjoyed back then. Anime Network started streaming the show on their site last week, so I figured it'd show up on their Anime Network on Demand channel on Time Warner Cable eventually.
I unintentionally stayed up to 12--knowing that the ANoD channel on my TV is updated at 12:00 AM on Thursdays, I turned to it to see what was up, and was excited as hell when I saw the first episode of the Canaan dub up. Sat down and watched it just now.
I've gotta say that so far, I'm having mixed feelings about it.
I mean, yeah--David Matranga, Shelley Calene-Black, and Hilary Haag are all voice actors that I really like, but--IMO--their voices didn't fit their characters (Mino, Canaan, and Maria respectively) at all. Matranga's voice sounds to young for an adult male, Black's voice sounds too old for a teenager/young adult, and Haag's voice was simply too damn high-pitched, even for the energetic character she played.
Not to say that any of it was bad acted, though. The acting itself was perfectly fine--it's just the actual voices that made it come of pretty weird to me. Another voice I didn't think fit much was Lera'do Anza'dua(pfft, try sayin' that 5 times fast) as Santana, and Serena Vanghese as Yun Yun is gonna take some getting used to.
All other voices in the episode I thought fitted great, and were acted well just as(most) of the ones above. All in all, I loved the episode last year, and I still loved it now--I just don't think a number of the voices fit very well. The animation was still amazing, and that opening is as kickass as ever.
So....anybody else see it? Any thoughts?
As a side note, I also didn't like the way that they pronounced Canaan(Kay-nin). As far as I was concerned, it was prounounced Ka-non.
