Why do people on message boards try to bite my head off when I simply state that most anime is made for teens and tweens? I'm simply stating a fact and they jump all over me like I'm commenting blastphamy against God.

Because people take it all far too seriously.

Now Gekiganger... That's an anime for adults.

yeah, hentai is 18+. So...

Thats just your view. I'm not going to "bite your head off."

And I dont think that the "blasphemy against god" was a correct statement. It is more like...You rapeing a little girl. The entire planet would jump to kill you except your fellow child molesters and rapests.

It's not that big of a deal, but why do you care to bring it up if you know that your head is going to get biten off?

Don't get discouraged when you are yelled at on the forms, it happens to everyone at some point. Just think before you post something, don't commit to posting when you don't have all the facts. If you have any hole in your point and it will be torn apart, that's just the way the forms are. It doesn’t matter if you believe it to be true; everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you don't like it then don't post. Ok? Wink.

Because why would you say it if not to further imply that we adults shouldn't care about them?

The "because X anime was made for kids" arguement is only ever brought out to belittle the views of the adults that enjoy them. If someone says that they don't like how a show was "retardized" for American audiences, people bring out the "but it was made for kids, stfu" arguement. It's not that it's wrong, per se, but it is generally APPLIED in a way that's intended to downplay, if not insult, the views of the many adults that enjoy the shows. I've rarely if ever hear it used in a positive way, such as "that show was made for kids in Japan, but clearly has broadened its audeince considerably in the US, good for them."

Don't expect an insult to be taken cheerfully, whether it's true or not.

You could say Shrek 2 was made purely for kids, but I doubt it. I don't like to hear that anything is stereotyped to be made for a certain audience. You do have a right to your own opinion, but be careful because you can't say one thing is made for a certain one age or type of customer without trying to snap at you. Imagine if candy stores had such people looking down on other people. Candy stores meant to be for kids twelve and under, adults being stereotyped not to be allowed to enjoy such candies because candy is meant for a child. I think everyone has a right to do, watch, walk, think, and say what they want without being sterotyped on the subject.

When you say people are bitting your head off, you are going to have to deal with it when you say something like that. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but it is true people are going to get a bit testy when you say anime are meant for kids. Maybe kids will like the animation and get a kick out of the fascinating CGI backgrounds, the characters and the fact them being around the same age as them. To the "adults", the story and the developement of the characters, the CGI, the time and effort of everyone on the project, the fantasy of the world they are in, culminates the entire series or movie to what we seek in our time and money spent on these animes. People think of animes alot more then mere childrens' cartoons. It is a growing culture, people like to sit down and escape from their ordinary and daily ruutine that we must do day after day. Sorry to get so in to this post but it really made me think what anime is to me. Anyways it was a good post, and a good view.

That's true. On other forums, people are just different. I personally don't see anything objectionable in your post, Midnight Knight, but some people...they jump on you easily. Don't pay 'em any mind, they're idiots. I'd just give them a well-written reply clarifying what you meant, and if anyone keeps arguing with you, just ignore it. I usually give a reply back and if he/she chooses to keep arguing, I pretend the post doesn't exist. This happened to me recently, so I can relate. All I was doing was agreeing with another user...-_-.

No, I don't think it's committing blasphemy against God, maybe it's that some people are insecure about liking anime when they themselves are not kids/teens/tweens. I'm still a kid at heart (even though I turn 24 tomorrow), so I don't have a problem liking shows like Sailor Moon and Full Moon wo Sagashite that I can recognize as being definitely "kids' stuff."

You're cool, Full Moon Wo Sagashite rocks! haha...

But I think you're wrong when you say anime is targetted at teens.... i mean, that's like saying MOVIES are dedicated to teens only. True, more teens watch them than adults, but it's because teens have more TIME in their hands... I'm sure a large population of ANN viewers are adults as in 21+

Arrow Much anime is made for teen and tween audiences. This much is true.

However, saying that "most" anime is for teen and tween audiences is asking for trouble.

Idea First, how is "most" defined? Is it based on the anime available in some given domestic market? Is it based on the anime which originated in Japan since 1984? Is it based on the total number of anime ever made since after World War II?

Once a definition of "most" is accepted for discussion purposes, then the responses can be more or less engaging. Otherwise, they risk being harsh.

What the heck is "Tweens"? Between or just trying to be "hip"?

I would say half are aimed at the teens and half for adults. Yeah, it changes all the time, but it pretty half and half. As far as the US, yeah, most are aimmed at teens.

It was created by marketing people to designate a desirable target audience. It does indeed refer to those kids that think they should be teenagers but aren't.

I thought it started at age 10? Anyway, ahem...I'm 31 and I still watch all of my favorite cartoons and the new ones and some silly ones too. Sometimes, it is just better than watching the regular shows that are out there. And now that I'm reading manga, it has totally opened up the way I look at anime. That is the best thing about anime it ranges from tame to pornographic...something for everyone to get into. If folks would just look at it that way then things won't be so darn heated.
