I'm planning on buying the Evangelion DVD's but I've seen there are two sets out there, you can buy the box set or you can buy the Platinum Editons. I'm just starting to build my collection, which one should I get? What are the differences between them? Which one would you recommend?

The Box set release (that is currently out now) uses several year old DVDs, which sound and video wise are not exactly up to a decent standard.
The Platinum release, however, has retouched audio for both English and Japanese, new subtitles, a new video transfer/remaster, more extras, booklets, and overall is a cleaner, more definitive release of the TV series (ontop of that, it also comes with directors cut episodes 21-24, which isn't initially included in the old release). I just wish Manga ent would actually do a proper release of the Evangelion films, but chances of that are fairly slim. |

You know, I need a straight answer on this:
"Is the dub redone or not?" anyway, I'd like to get this, but I didn't START it when ADV started releasing it... they might come out with the THINPAK sooner or later, and even though it'll be stripped somewhat, it's better than paying full price when then they suddenly announce it 
damn, if only I was here when they started releasing it

Partially. A couple of lines were redubbed in the early episodes, and the Director's Cut versions had whole characters replaced. |
