Here is the skinny:
Yeah I know I said to make announcements via the message boards but since alot of you are not on the forums yet(which can be found here:http://www.dcanime.org/forums/index.php?c=2) I thought I would post this via both the mailing list and the forums but after this no more conversation via this mailing list. Only announcements about DC Anime Club and anime related events. So if you know of an event please e-mail me off list and I will post it. Again we don't want to junk up peoples e-mail box. Let's be considerate of other peoples e-mail accounts. In short less e-mails. On to other news. Next Month there will be a Video Game Convention at the Washington Convention Center. Here is the site: http://www.vgxpo.com/ Washington, D.C., the American capital, will host over 37,000 attendees for the largest technology consumer event in the US, NBC4's Digital Edge. As a key content provider to the Digital Edge, VGXPO will showcase both classic and next-generation videogames, high-tech gadgets and lots of other fun activities. Be sure to review our Washington Events List for up-to-date scheduling information on tournaments, contests, videogame debuts, discussions and other events. This list will be updated frequently. The Washington Exhibitors List provides you with an up-to-date listing of sponsors, vendors and exhibitors signed on for the show. New entries will be added to the list regularly. America's VideoGame Expo (vgXpo) is one of the largest, and longest running, consumer videogame events in the United States. Now in our 6th year we are proud to announce that we have teamed up with NBC to host the vgXpo in three cities: Dallas, TX Washington D.C. Philadelphia. FREE ADMISSION America's VideoGame Expo is free to attended and open to casual game players, hardcore enthusiasts, classic game aficionados, trading card gamers, comic collectors, animation fans and scifi collectors. If you are a fan of games you wont want to miss the vgXpo. WHAT TO DO AND SEE There is so much to do while you're at the vgXpo. You'll spend hours touring the History of VideoGames Museum, participating in workshops, exploring the VideoGame and Animation Festival, or playing games in the arcade. We cover all of the bases - from Atari to Xbox. The vgXpo also features dozens of exhibitors, sponsors and vendors. You will have the opportunity to see and play pre-released games and hardware, rub elbows with game industry insiders and even have the opportunity to buy new and classic games. In the Market Place you can expect to find vendors selling all kinds of products and services. Here is a sampling of some of the items you can find: Action Figures Animation Art Work Classic and Retro Games Collectables Comic Books Homebrew Games New VideoGames and Hardware Prototypes Trading Card Games And Much More... WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING "I just wanted to praise you for the FANTASTIC job you did!! You put on a first-rate event, and I can't wait for the next one!!!" "I wanted to take a minute and thank you and your crew again for the hard work you put into this year's show. By any measure, the show was definitely a success." "If I had a complaint, it would be that the show was almost too good. I couldn't get away from my table long enough to spend any of my money!" "Thanks for putting on such a great convention." "Thanks again for an awesome time... it was even worth 11 hours of driving on Sunday!" "Just wanted to drop you a note...You guys did a fantastic job; It was a blast playing the coin ops in all their glory (btw, I placed 2nd and 3rd in the Donkey Kong arcade tourney :) I'm really looking forward to next year's event." "Thanks for the show. You and your team left nothing to chance and came away with a winner. Of course you realize this wave you've helped create is now too big to stop. Here's to many more years..." America's VideoGame Expo (VGXPO) is one of the longest running consumer videogame events in the United States. Formally known as PhillyClassic, 2005 marks our 6th year of continued operation. This year we will hold three expos: VGXPO - Dallas -- August 20 & 21 VGXPO - Washington -- August 27 & 28 VGXPO - Philadelphia -- November 12 & 13 To grow the attendance and marketing muscle of VGXPO we have teamed up with NBC to promote this year's events. Based on our history, and NBC's commitment, our combined attendee estimates for the three markets is over 85,000 attendees. For any company designing, producing or selling videogames, PC technology, interactive entertainment, animation, comics, trading cards, action figures, or collectibles participation in the VGXPO is an awesome opportunity to meet face-to-face with the enthusiasts that buy your products. Other events like E3 or GDC are focused on business-to-business transactions - VGXPO is the first real videogame consumer convention in the United States. However, there are strong consumer videogame events in Japan and Europe. For example, the Tokyo Game Show and the German G|C events reach over 100,000 attendees. America's VideoGame Expo plans to leverage this same kind of strength. With the VGXPO you have the unique opportunity to market your products, or services, to a large consumer audience. For premier exhibitors, when you participate in two, or more expos, our standard linear exhibit space fees start at just $21.00 per sq. foot, per event. Each exhibit comes fully carpeted and includes advertising space in the expo guides. In addition to exhibiting, we also provide a number of sponsorship packages. These are surefire mechanisms that can be used to generate buzz about your products. Be sure to review our Exhibitor Forms for all of the exhibit and sponsorship details. For 'mom and pop' sized vendors, we continue to offer the Market Place. Continuing our PhillyClassic traditions, the Market Place is affordable for any sized budget. All vendors in the Market Place receive a table, drapery, carpet, web links, and a small ad in the expo guide. For non-profits (colleges, fan groups, artists and enthusiasts we offer extremely cost effective mechanisms for you to promote your organization or just show off your collections. With NBC's tie-in, there is the added benefit of significant media coverage of the VGXPO in the local markets and nationally. As part of NBC's relationship with VGXPO, the NBC news affiliate in each city will be onsite during the show. Multiple times throughout the weekend, the NBC affiliate will broadcast live from the show floor. Other media outlets will also participate - city newspapers, cable news, game industry journalists, web and Blog writers and others will be providing significant coverage of the expos. In addition to a great selection of vendors and exhibitors, the following is a listing of the exhibits, displays, demonstrations, contests, events and activities that the show management has planned for America's VideoGame Expo. The History of VideoGames The History of VideoGames is a set of museum-like exhibits that showcases the 30+ year history of the videogame industry. The exhibits cover the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and Present Day. VideoGame.Net Experience The VideoGame.Net Experience showcases the use of videogames in education. Teachers from the VideoGame.Net Experience will be on hand to show visitors the tools and technologies used to make games. The Arcade has tons videogames set on free play. VideoGame & Animation Festival Budding game makers will be showcasing their creations in the VideoGame & Animation Festival. The vgXpo will display the best games and animations of 2005 created in the 'garage' by hobbyists. Have you developed your own game or Flash animations? The Living Rooms The Living Rooms are our relaxation stations on the show floor. Each Living Room has videogames on big TV screens and a set of couches and beanbags. The Championships will consist of competitive play on classic coin-op arcade and console game systems. Are you a die hard game player and think you have the skills to knock off the competition? Check back for more details on how you can participate and win! VideoGame LAN Tournaments LAN Tournaments provide visitors with the chance to bring in their own home PC systems and compete in Massively Multiplayer Online Game Tournaments. Please check back for more details soon. Bemani Tournaments Bemani games are music, dance and rhythm games. These extremely popular game types rely on physical strength, co-ordination and musical ability. The Bemani Tournaments will pit players against each other in drumming contests, dance offs and other physically active play. We are planning DDR and Donkey Konga competitions and want you to participate. Competitions start on Saturday and extend through Sunday. If you want to compete, be sure get to the expo early! VideoGame Debuts At every vgXpo we have had the honor of being the host to the world wide debut of new videogames, hardware, books and other game related items. Each expo has something different and exciting that the visitors can see for the very first time. If you or your company are registered as vendors or exhibitors at the show and will be showcasing your games to the public for the first time, please let us know. We can work with you to highlight your game and make sure that everyone knows about it! Guest Speakers The Guest Speakers segments of the vgXpo host videogame industry alumni to talk about their experiences in gaming. Don't miss the chance to rub elbows (and get a few autographs) with game developers and game design legends. Are you a game industry insider? We will shortly post a call for speakers on this website. Be sure to check back soon so that you can participate. CosPlay and Costume Contest The Costume Contest is an extremely popular feature of the expo. Participants in the contest dress up as their favorite videogame characters and act out game play scenes. Costumes and CosPlay were a HUGE hit with the expo last year. Dress up as your favorite videogame hero or villain -- you're sure to be stopped for photos by other gamers. For CosPlay folks, be sure check in with us at the expo. We're providing a large stage for CosPlay events and contests. Check back with us for updated information on how you can participate. OTHER GREAT FEATURES Enthusiast Collectors Enthusiast collectors have been a big part of the success of the expo. These enthusiasts are largely at the expo to showcase their personal videogame collections. Visitors to the Enthusiast Collectors get a chance to play with rare games, look at complete libraries and chat with the collector. If you are a collector be sure to visit our Exhibitors page for information on booths and table space. PhillyClassic Market The PhillyClassic Market is a collection of individuals, and 'mom and pop' shops that have come to the vgXpo to sell videogames or promote their services. The Market is sighted by the visitors as one of their most favorite aspects of the show. These folks will be selling all kinds of games and other related items. Be sure to bring money - we're sure you'll be bringing home lots of great new and classic games. If you are a vendor be sure to visit our Exhibitors page for information on the Market's table space or a dedicated booth. Chris W. Anime Clubs Unite Founder. |
