I just finished this series. I happened to get the first volume for a dime at a library book sale and loved it. Also I bought the anime OVA when a blockbuster was going out of business. It reminds me so much of early Rumiko Takahashi story and art. That may have got me to read it but I really enjoy the light hearted story. How they always pick on the one person and all the personalities are unique and enjoyable. I know this is shoujo though and it makes me question myself ... (not really)
I was going to ask what other people thought of this series if they seen it.

I've both seen and read it, I enjoyed it quite a lot. There are some things I like about the OVA better, like making the fantasy alt worlds chapters into a film project by the students (because when I read the manga counterpart, it came off as insufferably boring for me). But then the manga also went a lot farther, introduced new students and such, so I found lots to like about both of them in the end

I have both versions and enjoyed both immensely. I first saw the anime on VHS early in my collecting. This was some time before the manga version came out. When Viz started publishing the manga I was overjoyed.
While some of the story elements may remind you of Takahashi, I don't see the similarity in the art work, but that may be just me.
For some reason when I started thinking about Here is Greenwood, another title came to mind. Crown of Love, also issued by Viz. You might like that also.

I agree with some of the side stories being boring. They did work that well in the OVA

Greenwood is one of my all-time favorite series. The OAV and manga are quite different but both of them are hilarious, touching and have great characters. Some of the best slice of life comedy ever written. It's classic.
