When on /bbs/phpBB2 and /encyclopedia sections, the upper left links of USA, UK, and AUSTRALIA change to text links instead of buttons. Tried on Chrome 10.0.648.204, Safari 5.0.4, and Firefox 4.0 with the same results.

They're definitely doing some fiddling - we're now redirected to .co.uk in the UK and a "show only UK news" link has been added and the page is now po[pulated with articles from the US-side.
--edit-- On the machine in work I couldn't view your images and the version of Firefox there was producing similar results to your FF4 screenshot. At home I use Chrome (12.0.712.0 dev) on Windows 7 64-bit which is the same as your Chrome screenshot, likewise the Windows version of Safari (also 5.0.4). Going to try IE here now: IE9:
