I'm wondering if Anime News Network is a highly regarded website in the anime world. It says at the top that it's "The Internet's most trusted anime news source". It's one of the first websites listed on google whenever I search for anime stuff. I don't really know how it ranks compared to other sites though. Does anybody have any imput on this? I know I'm probably going to get positive feedback from most of the people who use this site, because why else would they use it if they didn't like it? Hearing from people who often use other anime sites would be appretiated.
Edit: Oh, sorry about puting it in the "Talkback" section, but it didn't seem like it should go in the "Anime" section. But I guess it does go there. Last edited by PantsGoblin on Sun Dec 04, 2005 4:08 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Well, as you noted, it's not necessarily an easy question to answer. I will say, however, that ANN is frequently quoted (speaking of editorials, columns, news reports, con reports, etc.) at other, popular anime news outlets, blogs, review sites, and the like. It was the "Site of the Week" in Sci-fi Weekly last year. I've seen Shelf Life and, back when it was still kicking, Right Turn Only quoted and linked to on ADV's site. (Not that a big a surprise when you get free positive press).
So, to attempt and answer the question, I would say that it is generally held in good standing with the community at large. Of course, like any other such outlet, there are those who will have issues with it, for whatever reason. |

Poll-wise, it's first, 2 years running. Too bad we can't see how many people voted. |

My input would be that I've also seen that poll declaring ANN the #1 anime site, just ahead of animeondvd. I think it's trusted by the distributors because of the strict no downloads / no bootlegs / no piracy / no nothing policy. Other anime sites have forums full of "n e body know sum good torrent sites?" posts, making them less cool/credible to the industry.
