I have seen the first 4 episodes on fansubs awhile back (but I had to drop it because the fansubbers didn't have Eps. 5-7 available; I'll probably buy the DVDs from ADV in the near future). I have to say it's very cute, and the jobs the girls has to go through in order to become a princess is rather interesting and fun (though I don't think I would marathon the entire series; it might get repetitve for some). The one where Yucie is taking care of that puffy cloud pet is funny.
I have to say that this series is seriously one of the most undertalked Gainax series ever (hell ANN didn't make any DVD reviews or mention it on Shelf Life).
i'm glad that at least someone knows what i'm talking about. i also think that you should see it through to the end. you'd be suprised at what new things are in store for yucie. there's happy things and sad things but in the end it... well whatch it and you'll find out.

It was on ANime Network On Demand.
It's a sweet enough series, nothing to get me excited or upset over. If I were to compare it with other princess-type shows that I've seen on ANoD but wouldn't have searched out if they hadn't been on the network, it's not nearly as interesting and compelling as Princess Tutu (though Yucie's characters are more personable) but loads better than Pretear.
It does have a nice ending that makes you tear up a bit.
--not to say it's a horribly depressing ending, we may be misleading people with our reviews here. There is a happy ending but it throws in some tearjerkers at the end.
I wonder if Gainax were hoping to make more of the series. Things do go back to a status quo at the end, suggesting more can be told and it's true that they never do touch on the "origin" of Yucie at all, plus, spoiler[they're all still stuck at 12 years old!]
I probably would watch more if they had made more. But I agree it's probably not a great one for marathon watching. Even after the job-a-day structure breaks down it still feels a bit formulaic... but a good formula.

It’d take a heart of stone to come out of this not feeling sad, but at times it felt scientifically engineered to do so.― There are two tropes in anime that never get old: humanoid robots and dying girls.
