20th Century Boy

It looks like Viz isn't waiting for Monster to end and lets hope Viz doesn't put 20th Century Boy on hiatus again. Amazon date arn't that reliable but they will have to do for now.

This is the best manga news of the year so far.

I've heard a lot of good things about it from you and a couple of other people in this forum, so I agree that this is one of the best news I've heard in a while.

Is it safe to say it will be a bi-monthly release? I hope it gets released on the months that no new Monster is to be released. One month Monster, the next 20th Century Boy... I could live with that for a couple of years.

I certainly hope it comes out here soon, seeing as 20th Century Boys is, in my opinion, the BEST manga I have ever read. I absolutely love it. More people need to know about this series--it's brilliant.

Anyone who hasn't read 20thCB yet should absolutely pick it up as soon as it comes out. It's so good it makes any other manga look like crap.

With the exception of Monster, which is only the slightest bit less awesome than 20th Century Boys. Smile

Hopefully Viz will follow through on this. 20th is a great read; one that's better than Monster in more than one aspect.

The problem with 20th Century Boys is that it's rather difficult to summarize because of the time-skipping nature of the storyline. Here's what Wikipedia had to say about it, as I'm too lazy to actually summarize it myself:

"Growing older is pretty rough and Kenji is finding out just how hard it can be as life starts wearing down on him. On top of trying to make ends meet running a convenience store he has to care for the niece that his missing sister left in his care. Memories of youth make it easier, until those memories come back to haunt you.

Kenji and his old friends are slowly being drawn into a mysterious conspiracy that could threaten the world. Who is the mysterious "Friend" and how does he tie into Kenji's youth? Why are there disappearances and deaths tied into Ochanomizu University? Their memories hold the keys to the puzzle, but time and age have clouded their minds.

The strange occurrences and the reach of the "Friend" conspiracy grow by the day. It will all culminate on New Year's Eve 2000. Will Kenji and the others be able to put together the puzzle and save the world?"

Not the greatest summary, but it gives you a rough idea...

I didn't like the art either at first, but it grows on you. No matter how you may feel on the art, the story is masterfully told. It's one of the most intriguing, well-plotted, and most complex works of storytelling I can think of. I literally could not stop reading it for several days--I would always promise myself "One more volume, just one more..." I read almost all of it that's out so far in one day.

I think everyone should give this manga a chance--they won't regret it.

I hope they do an anime of it soon.

That's actually an understatement.

And probably an overstatement after volume 15.

Wasn't this the series from the creator of Monster?

Even I can answer that one, Yes... I'm not trying to make you feel dumb but you, fighterholic, are very knowledgeable in the manga field, well atleast when compared to me, and it;s nice to finally be able to anser one of your questions, although this may not be considered a question.

True. It would be nice if he'd stop skrewing around with unessisary twists that just convelute the plot. Still, even after they spoiler[jump forward in time YET AGAIN], it remains a hell of a fun read.

For this and your original question, USE THE ENCYCLOPEDIA. It's your friend.
