Not a manga in the least, and not attempting to pretend to be one, but certainly is influenced somewhat by manga and other graphic novels..
And also interesting given the current Serenity graphic novel which emulates manga. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=424202 -t |

Didn't have time to read the article, but when you mentioned a Jewish graphic novel, it reminded me of Maus. I have just finished the first volume, and I was wondering if anybody else has ever read it, and what your thoughts on it were.
My teacher and classmates were going on and on about how Spegielman was using the first techinques of black and white. I tried to say that those techinques were used in Astro Boy and Phoenix first (weren't these the first graphic novels?). But nobody would believe me, and the funny thing is that none of them have even read any manga. But what are your thoughts on Maus, if you have read it. I have to say, that it does prove that images are more powerful than words. [OT] My friend thinks that this smiley is really cute so I am putting it in to please her |

Pretty interesting, though I find the aspect of the story where the christians gradually turn Serenity into a christian to be well sorta offensive. This is because I don't believe in making people into what you want them to be. People have free choice to choose what they want to be. It would be interesting if they included that aspect into the graphic novel. Haha now i'm getting myself very interested in this graphic novel.

Looks like we got you on a theological bender Tempest. Wondering if I should feel bad about that.
Anyway. I wish more religions would do this. There are so many cool stories from back then. I mean take St. Sebastian's story for example, 200 arrows in his body, not dead yet, just resting his eyes, etc. I don't really know. But it is gory and violent etc. And what about all the Hindu gods? I haven't read but one of Clamps RG Veda, and haven't read the Rig Vedas, or the Upanishads to know how true to life it is. But, I find it fascinating. Who is Nimrod, and why does Bugs Bunny call Yosemite Sam by his name? As for Serenity, yeah, I kind of wonder about the idea of a "project girl" myself. How many others are ignored to "save" the one? This plot sounds too much like the story of religious cult "Moonies." I would probably rather read about McGruff the crime dog. |

Well, well, well. Now this has my attention. To bring the story of Esther to the world of comics, a bold but smart step in ways that could score big for this generation. I hope it does well. I'll probably check it out too.
