The Legend of the Legendary Heroes (TV)

The name is goofy but don't let it fool you. The first two episodes show a detailed and well thought-out fantasy world with lots of potential. It kind of reminds me of Demon King Daimao only without the excessive fanservice and with much better pacing. I like the characters, comedy and plot enough that it's currently #2 on my priority list.

Sure is redundant titles of redundancy here. Daimao means demon king, or whatever is close enough to that. So saying Demon King Daimao is just saying Demon King: the King of Demons.

Fits with Legendary Heroes of Heroic Legendary Legend.

The Japanese name is Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaō if that's any better. I just used the English one because it's shorter.

I have only seen the first episode so far, it kind of jumped into the series with only kind of confusing flashbacks for backstory. The feeling I got from the first episode was that this series is going to switch between being serious and being near parody. For example both spoiler[the male lead and an enemy leader both tried to convince the enemy soldiers they were being fooled by the female lead.]

Or that the spoiler[traps] were set at first to be serious, but were actually ver inefective. And that they accidently spoiler[unleashed a powerfull monster, and they were plenty happy just to leave it go unchecked, aswell as accidently hitting it with an attack that could destroy a town.] I get the feeling they might be jokes on common cliches.

Seen the first two episodes. Not really getting the Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao feel at all.

Didn't care much for the first episode. The comedy didn't hit home for me much, the pacing felt off, and I thought Feris came across as unnecessary bitch.

Liked the second episode much more. The pacing still feels off, but the comedy was better and I dug Shion's relationships with Lyner and Feris.

Other than the mention of a demon king this title has not much to do with Ichiban. Well, unless you're one of those who tried to compare Naruto to Star Wars.

If comparing, I'd probably take Guin Saga's territory, and 07-Ghost's military system. Except for the king, I don't think any of their personalities is generic in this sort of set up.

This one came off surprisingly better than I thought. The impression I held onto after watching the trailer was that of something extremely boring.

I'm liking the characters; mainly Ferris Eris, but just because her name rhymes. I'll be blunt, I thought she'd be annoying and useless, but thus far [ep. 2] she's pretty much the anime's highlight.

I'm glad the pace isn't subpar. The way they introduced the present on the first episode, and delved directly into the past during the second.

If there's one thing I wish for, that's for the king not to turn out to be a generic villain. It'll be a lot more interesting if he truly is earnest and aims to change the country that way. Hopefully this is unnecessary worrying.

This series isn't lighting my world on fire, but I'm getting enough enjoyment out of it so far to get the sense that I'll probably watch it all the way through instead of dumping it at some point. Although, there are using my least favourite plot structure: spoiler[plunge into the action in first eppie, then back up to the past before moving forward again. I have no idea how many eppies it will take to get back to the timeline in the first episode. Thanks to that, I think we already have a pretty good idea who dies in the upcoming battle with the 50 magic knights.]

And I must be the only Demon King watcher who never had a problem with its pacing. My biggest beef with that series was that in the beginning, they got some decent laughs out of the "nice guy who wants to do good who everybody thinks is a demon lord and thus misinterprets any of his actions" premise but then kind of dropped the idea. Granted, they couldn't have hit that gong for ever without it getting tiresome, but I think they abandoned it sooner than they had to.

I'd say this will take one more episode. I don't see the need to know what happened after they got to that spoiler[trap], so I'm guessing we'll be back to present on episode 4.

As for Ichiban, I'm quite sure I made it clear that I had no problems with the pace as well. It could've been better, and the pace was certainly not ideal, but it hardly affected my capability of accepting what was going on and enjoying it in return. I'd say it was one step ahead for bringing a conclusion... sincerely, nowadays, bad or not I'd take a satisfactory conclusion on the top of a lot of other attributes. I suppose this is where my completist side kicks in. Very Happy

Edit:

This was one of problems with it as well, pretty much for mostly the same reasons. Would have preferredspoiler[ they just started with the past.]

Agreed on the first episode being less than ideal. They made the common mistake of trying to dazzle viewers with flashy battles and explosions.

Episode 2 turned out much better as did the little bits of humor they put in. Much better then ep. 1 at least. But I'm not a fan of throw away characters spoiler[especially when they have other traumas stacked upon them as well as dying eventually as hinted by the preview and flashbacks.] spoiler[Here's hoping some of them make it out although the flashbacks hint that's probably won't be the case except for the main cast...]

Series seems okay. Although the 2 episode do feel different in style from one another but they'll probably go back to episode 1's pacing once we get back to present time.

Edit: Oh, rewatched the flashback in ep. 1. spoiler[Guess one of them does make it out. Glad she did.]

The second episode did start giving us the back story, personally I don't really want the backstory too take too much. But I guess the encyclopedia is saying 26 episodes, so for something of that length they want to set the ground work and we will get back to the taste of what we got in eppisode 1. Personally I don't really think they are doing a very good job with useing so much words to tell the story, but are doing a reasonable job with their pictures.

Those small parts which showed the guy's spoiler[mother dieing and dead animal] were good at showing some pain in that guy's past. And those slow mo shots of the main characterspoiler[blocking the attack with ease] was good at showing him as more then he seems. Also the line he said earlier ("No response, it appears to be a corpse") got a chuckle out of me, isn't it a popular line from a video game or something?

Anyway the two eppisodes were fairly different in areas, I wonder if it will pan out, or maybe swap around, kind of like ... wel the one that comes to mind is Samurai Champloo that liked to dance around with drama and rediculousness.

Based on the title and vibes I got from the promo I watched, I was expecting this to be a straight up parody of the RPG fantasy genre; it's not. The first episode bounced between mildly amusing (Ferris; world's worst bodyguard) and lame. And then, damn you, it does one of my biggest pet-peeves: jumping to possible multi-episode backstory in the next episode. It starts weaving serious and pretty generic stories (As Blood- pointed out: gee, I wonder who's going to die? Rolling Eyes ) and just gets boring rather quick. I'll give it a few more episodes, but as of right now, Ookami-san is entertaining me more than this one, and that's saying a lot.

Well spoiler[ I was hoping this show wouldn't start out with a parody, much less a over used one. ] I thought of watching the first episode because Zac said it had rpg elements in it.

I like rpg based anime/manga, if it's done right. But unless it's Gintama, just shouting random rpg references isn't usually funny or somewhat funny. It's usually frustrating actually and sometimes even annoying.

From my understanding the first episode was a side story and sns the cuts to the King is the first chapter of the sidestory manga. Episode 2 is the real start, not a flashback.

I'm trying to work out which first episode is going to kill the fanbase potential for a show more, this or mago. God why do they try and change things up to attract more viewers and yet fail.
