Please don't embarrass that person by making him or her asking a dumb question. Why? The job title, "Animation Director (Sakuga Kantoku/作画監督)" is really misleading title. It's not the same as all-mighty "Director (Kantoku/監督) or Episode director (Enshutsu/演出) The animation director/supervisor only oversees animation aspect of the show. Generally put, Animation Director is the person who oversees that cute anime face doesn't look like she had a stroke by less experienced animator. Animation Director/Sakuga Kantoku has nothing to do with story whatsoever, so please don't make him/her waste everyone's time. Here's some helpful advice: You can ask him about the final scene in Evangelion 1.0 where Rei smiles after Shinji opens entry plug. On Evangelion 2.0, scene where Asuka tries on her new plug suit. Matsubara worked on those scenes. Also you can ask him about Oh My Goddess anime or Sakura Wars character designs. It's always good to do some homework first. |

A scene where there is literally no animation whatsoever might be worth asking an animation director about, as normally an animated series is, you know, in motion.
