I thought the same thing! I should really stop associating that word exclusively with id Software's FPS 
To be fair, there was an okay-ish OAV that was based on another FPS game called "SiN". And then there was Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, which immaculately combined FPS gameplay with mecha anime.
