I really liked the original, but nothing I've seen of this game has convinced me of it being worth it... The story seems like it's the same?

It depends of what you want. The sequel has improved controls and combat systems, more customization and more characters. The Saiyajins' transformations don't give them infinite ki, and other races have their race-specific transformations, too.
It's the continuation of the previous plot, so it's obviously the same. The beta showed that the first mission is almost identical to the one of the first game, except that Tarles and Slug show up in the end, indicating that the Time Patrol didn't completely fix the change unlike the Patroller of the first game.

That figure is the same one I bought from an anime convention I went to. does that mean all these "exclusive CE figures are ones easily found in Japan?
