Where is Gyakusatsu Kikan? It's suppose to be #1. There must be some mistake.

Yeah ... They Need a big Valentine's day screening event !!! I really hope that in the end It will surpass Frozen !!!
Quote: | As of Sunday, the film has earned 24 billion yen (about US$213 million) in Japan. It is now #3 on the all-time box office chart in Japan, just below #4 Frozen's 25.48 billion yen (about US$227 million). |
I think it's the other way around ... Frozen's #3 and Kimi no na wa #4 ...

Maybe, but in Vday is a Tuesday this year, not a weekend...and in Japan giving chocolates is the main event, not dates and romance.

How long will Kimi no Na wa actually stay on the big screen? And when is the DVD /Bluray release? The movie will most likely dominate in disc sales as well...

We'll be waiting until the end of October, sadly. The unprecedented popularity of the film has brought about the undesirable consequence of highlighting just how long it takes for theatrical anime to be released internationally.

I was wondering the same... I really hope it performs well and has some healthy sales. It's by far my most anticipated film of the year.
Having said that, I'm so glad at "In this corner..." success. Between this and the huge hit of YOI I'm sure the future is a bright one for MAPPA and I couldn't be happier for it

Yuri!! On Ice committee:
Avex Pictures
TV Asahi
Dentsu
cygames
TV Asahi Music
Movic
MAPPA
In This Corner of the World Committee:
Asahi Shinbun
AT-X
cygames
TBS Radio
Tokyo Color Photo Wings
Tokyo Theatres
Tohokunshinsha
Bandai Visual
Futabasha
Mac
MAPPA
Genco
Notice how MAPPA is at the bottom of these committees. They're not getting as much as the ones at the top are; that's where YOI's disc sales go to Avex and most of the box office goes to Tokyo Theatres (distributing it) and the companies at the top of the committee. While MAPPA is certainly getting more than they would if these aren't hits, they're not getting nearly as much as people think they are getting. They don't own the original author credits either; YOI's is owned by the director/series composer and In This Corner in the World is a manga written by a non-employee and published by a separate company.
This is why it's important to look at who's actually financing these projects rather than the animation studio; the latter is often not investing much into the project if investing much at all.

While I know it sucks that many foreign countries will have to wait a year or more before this Shinkai movie goes on DVD, I do hope that this movie defeats "Spirited Away" at the native box office. Its hype certainly is well-deserving of that.
