Hello, name's DetektiveL, and as you can probably tell, I'm new to these forums!I've been visiting ANN for almost a year now and lurking these forums, so I hope I can become a regular member here! :3

Anyways. on to the topic. Me and about a group of 5 other people have decided to start our own manga club at my school. Now I'm not sure if this topic has been brought up here a lot, but I'd love some input, or advice as to how to make the club fun and successful.

Firstly, I'm not the one who came up with the idea for the cluv, so I'm not sure how much influence I'll have. We've already gotten the O.K from my Art teach and she plans on being our sponsor.

The guy who's kinda organizing the whole deal is planning on running the club like a book club. We bring our own manga and trade it with people, discuss it, introduce people to new titles, etc..

The problem I have is that I don't think thats really enough activities to warrant a full blown out club. We also discussed maybe airing some anime or playing anime related video games, but the main focus is going to be manga.

I also plan on making banners and posters to help advertise the club and attract new members, and we may even make our own fan comics (though I'm the only one that can actually draw moderately well)/

So, I'd just really like some input on what kinda activites would be good, and advice on how to run a club from people who've actually been involved in this type of thing before. I'd really appreciate the help!

P.S: I hope this is in the right section :X

well, i think that discussing is probably the deepest part of your planned club. it would be what seperates the "OMG I  INU CAUS SESSIE IS SO CUTE!!!" from "I prefer (insert series) because...". if there was a club like that, i'd join it. my school just has an anime club where we just watch it, but it's more of a social thing. of course, to discuss things, you nedd to find manga that actually have things worth discussing in the context of the real world, such as art styles and character development, not just preferences or characters.

i think that watching anime would add another layer to the deep cake of a club your baking if you can discuss them in the same way i mentioned above Wink

Well I personaly think that the Book Club idea is probably your best bet. I'd suggest maybe having everybody read the same manga and then discussing in depth that one at the meetings, if everyone isn't told to read the same one I think it will probably become way to disjointed with everyone trying to talk about different manga that they read, plus having everybody read the same ones will probably give people exposure to series that they hadn't thought of trying before. Also if that is along the lines of what the club was going to be I wouldn't suggest having Anime running during it, although perhaps after reading the manga you could watch the Anime at the meetings and compare and contrast the two and discuss which one was better.
