loved the original xD..., it had some grindy parts and its gameplay wasnt as good as the Etrian Odyssey franchise.. but it had a way better story and characters (and great engl. dub for once)

I thought Refrain was great. It wasn't perfect by any means but I liked that the game play was far more flexible in a lot of areas and while I certainly enjoy the Etrian series more Refrain is a good middle ground for those who like something a bit easier and that doesn't need you to hand draw all your own maps.
As a aside here why does the article title refer to the game as a action RPG? If it's like Refrain in any way it isn't action at all it's turn based combat with a heavy focus on dungeon exploration. No action to be found here. At least unless they are going in a very different direction.
