Actually it's an awesome news - Neverland s2 probably would have a better production because CloverWorks would complete its work on FGO Babylonia after winter-2020 season. S1 was great, but some of talented animators were shifted from this project after 1st episode to work on FGO.

I am guessing that someone at Sony had heard of the Nekopara franchise and they believed that Sony could make something like that for women. That would explain how Sony ended up making an anthropomorphized version of a kids show from the 1980's. On one hand cute animal boys is a potential new market so it could be a good idea but on the other hand I don't know whether there is that much interest in it.
