Does anyone out there collect doujinshi as well? I've probably spent about 400$ on the original Haibane doujins, and I'd like to see if others have this obsession with collecting doujins of series they love.

I don't. But I did plenty of them at AX, and I'm actually considering buying some this upcoming AX. Just gotta have the money for it on top of all the other related products that I'll probably be getting.

*is jealous* I would love to have the Haibane Renmei doujinshi, but I couldn't bring myself to shell out that much moolah for them. Anime hyper

I have about a half a dozen or so doujinshi, mainly for Evangelion & Shoujo Kakumei Utena. I did have a whole lot more than that but I gave a lot of it away as being naive, I didn't realise that a lot of doujins were hentai too; seeing my favourite characters in ecchi situations made me cry on more than one occasion, so my doujinshi buying days are long over. I don't really have that much, but what I do have (about 10 books), they're all pornographic... I got them all in Japan. Most of them are Galaxy Angel, and then a few Love Hina and Popotan. A lot of them are mixed though, and I have no idea what a few of them are. There's a lot more I'd want by some specific artists, but I think I'd have to go to Comiket to get most of them. I hope to go to Comiket one day...

Cry? Uh, don't ever visit 4chan. Personally, there'a also certain anime I don't particularly like being portrayed in sexual situations too though... And I've never really found the appeal of rape in hentai either...

Oh, I've been to 4chan. An online friend sent me a link to a pic of some (innocuous) fanart of one of my favourite shoujo-ai pairings. Being the curious sort, I went for a random trawl on the site, & lets just say that my one & only visitation to that particular site has scarred me for life. Anime cry

I don't really collect; I only have 1 really short book (pornographic) that I got at a con. Maybe I'll get some more in the future, but doujinshi takes a back seat to manga, anime, and pretty much everything else I collect.

Same here. That's mainly why I shy away from it.

Oh, and once the thought (or an image) is in your head, it's impossible to get it out... in good or bad Rolling Eyes Yeah, I remember stumbling into a Naruto doujinshi scanlation site and... well, there went my innocence. There was once a time when I thought people enjoy series for what the creators created it for - but oh well, I know better now.

Having said that, it hasn't prevented me from getting some interesting H doujinshi myself... as long as I get to choose the pairing it's all just a little bit of fun on the side. Biggest problem for me is that I don't understand any Japanese so it has to be pretty graphic for it to hold my interest, and plot-based stories are not an option...

My ex-roommate was the one who introduced me to the idea of doujinshi. Sadly I was very naive at the time, and when we went to Ohayocon together, she begged me and our other friend to keep an eye out at the vendors for "Gravitation Remixes". I was super-excited to hear that there were Gravitation side-stories, and I did indeed find one for her...I didn't realize they were so graphic though, hee. I'm sure my jaw hit the floor and my eyes bugged out as I thumbed through it.

I have always wanted to get my hand on Final Fantasy 6 doujinshi though, as long as it wasn't crazy mad sex between all the men. Women are ok, but not my boys, lol.

I bought one of the remixes at a convention a while ago, but my mom found it and ripped it up. I recently found a website that had English translations for most of the books, and they're shockingly hilarious books. They retain the same sense of absurdist humor that the official manga and the television series had, but since Murakami isn't bound by censorship she can crank out even nastier jokes. Maybe I'm just a closet sadist, but this scene had me in tears. (Nothing visually pornographic, but definitely not safe for work.)

Hee that is hilarious. I might be a closet sadist myself, because I found that great Anime hyper

The only problem was, at the time, I was just under the impression that these were like, side stories about random characters, so when you are expecting that and you open one up, it's like "BAM!" Hee. I actually love Gravitation a lot and I can't wait until Gravitation EX comes out.

But yeah, the anime store 20 minutes away from me actually sells quite a bit of graphic doujinshi, and the guy still cards me when I browse through it...-_-

Not necessarily. I've heard that the author got the most of the ideas for the "plots" in the Remixes from fanletters from underage fangirls of the original series describing their fantasy sex scenes with the Gravitation characters. Maybe one of her readers was just a giant pervert. Laughing

Well, I doubt she would draw/write it if it didn't resonate with her. In the latest Megamix Murakami describes the process that she goes through when drawing doujinshi: she locks herself in a room and watches tons of porn and reads other BL, and then starts drawing... yeah, I can see how how that would make you a bit, er, extreme. Because that's the word I'd use to describe her doujins - especially Megamixes are not for the faint of heart, they are really hardcore SM with all the side dishes.

When I was in Japan, I found a doujin of a girl who uses her body to bring world peace. I usually look for non-pornographic doujin, but if they're absurd like this, then I'd pick them up.
