At least financially (if not critically), I think that Makoto Shinkai has cemented his status as one of the most successful animation director of all time. I, too, am looking forward to watching this. He's not the next Miyazaki, but he's a unique and important voice in anime.

I loved Your Name and I'm glad to see Weathering With You doing well in Japan. I'm curious to see how it does globally especially compared to Your Name.
