Should be interesting to see what happens by October. Experts still say we can't really go back to normal by then but limited return to normalcy may be possible so I expect at best limited capacity theaters with people at least 6 feet away (tho some recent studies suggest 20 feet is needed)

If the source of that info was true (which some people seem to question), it was seemingly delayed to October, which makes me wonder how soon it was originally planned for.

I would like to know why is there a movie instead of an usual 2nd season, though. I always get the feeling that a movie after a TV season of anything, not just anime, means that there won't be any further seasons or adaptations of said medium's story.

Probably not for a while. But my guess is that eventually they will air the tv-edit of the movie as part of the second season.
