The rule is no photography in indoor areas of the museum, at least when I visited back in 2011.

Same, I visited in 2016 and it was just indoors.

I also rememeber the food at that cafe actually being really good.

When I visited the Museum the rule was no photography in the room with the cat bus, but no problem elsewhere. I can't remember when that was exactly, but it was before 2010.
