I've never heard of Hiroshi Hirata until recently interesting that he designed the logo of Akira.

ks published in france, but he seems virtually unkown in the english speaking world, despide Dark Horse having published Satsuma Gishiden (Ok, i'ts been a while), which is a shame.
He really was a master of samurai manga. You really can't get more bushdo and samurai spirit than this.
Rest in peace, warrior of the pen.
