In other news, Anime Limited to distribute Macross Plus in the US, Canada, UK and Ireland. US and Canada via Shout! Factory I believe?

I kind of figured that Big West's Macross stuff would win up being split between various companies. Just watch Discotek eventually announce that it licensed Macross 7, while Sentai announces that it has Macross Zero & II. Meanwhile, FUNimation has... Robotech.

So all of this is certainly great news, but has there been any word about us getting a completely unscrewed-with version of the original series? I have zero interest in Robotech, but I'd very much like to check out the original Macross someday.

Its been a few years, but OG Macross was on Amazon Prime as recently as 2019.
With all these annoucements, I hope we get a theatricl run of DYRL. Id love to see that on the big screen.

Geo: Rumour still has it that M7's music rights are prohibitively expensive.

I really meant for home video purposes. I have no interest in paying for streaming services.

Figure we'll get news on the original 1982 TV show this coming weekend at the Harmony Gold-panel.

Gotcha, well I'm with you on wanting a bluray release. Macross is what got me into anike and I would happily give them my cash to get it on disc

Probably eventually, but at least the original has had a disc release in the past, unlike these. It will come eventually, not that I am getting hasty and selling my AnimEigo box set

I can't find any mention of it but I honestly don't see how it would work with the music. Changing language just for music is always really awkward and making english versions is costly and pretty much never works out

I mainly meant just dubbing everything except the songs, since that's usually the common practice with some exceptions. I know music rights are pretty tight in Macross' case.

As I live and breathe, releasing Frontier and Delta in the West!
I think Delta had English subs already on their DVD release so I wonder if they'll just re-use those. I don't know how often Nozomi Entertainment actually dubs their releases so I'm not expecting it.

A complete, dubbed version of SDF Macross was released on DVD in the States over the course of 2006, but unfortunately, some of the individual volumes of it are insanely expensive if you can find them at all. I own the whole set, though, so I can attest that it does exist.
