I've already read the first volume, and found it a pleasant read. I agree with everything else in the review - well said! But this is absolutely not BL, nor is it ever going to be. It's bromance, pure and simple. (The term might be synonymous with queerbaiting in the west, but this was not written in the west, now, was it. Bromance is a legitimate subgenre in Japanese fiction, and one of my personal favourites.) So if that's your cup of tea - together with slice-of-life fantasy, of course - then I'd recommend this.
Hope we'll get the next volume soon! The fact that it's a relatively unknown publisher and this is a pretty niche title makes me nervous, though. |
