I'm looking forward to this! I've been meaning to read the manga for a while but then the anime announcement happened so I decided to wait for that.

The concept of this one has intrigued me ever since I first heard about the manga. It will probably be one of my most-anticipated titles of the Fall '23 season.

Oshi no ko was already crazy, but this now can even be topped?
Episode of the year incoming.

Most likely Toho wants to bake the money from theatrical preview too - without too much additional costs.

Depends, on American TV saying something is a "2hr special" usually translates to 80~ min of show and then 40 min of commercial. Not sure if anime is the same but could turn out to be.

If it were Aniplex, they would've made it an actual feature-length movie straight to the cinema.

It's Toho. They have the money.

Please tell me this will be editted into ~4 or 5 eps right... I can deal with 40 minute specials, but over one and a half hours is really pushing it. Especially considering I prefer the TV format because... long story arcs are divided into multiple episodes with a banging OPED every 25 or so minutes.

I think It would have been worded differently it was intended has an early movie version prior to an edited format like Broken Blade and such did, in this case it's more like a typical odd lenght episode 0/1, when some long running animes had 2h special it was usually 1h:40 often with a full lenght ED for credit's sake.

Yeah, but I don't want to wreck up my watchlist for this show. I normally watch 3 or 4 eps of a show at a time, maybe its petty but I don't want to watch 7 episodes worth of Sousou no Frieran in a row. It's not even something I was that hyped for so I'm not making an exception, I still haven't bothered to watch the Made in Abyss movies or sequel series and Made in Abyss used to be #1 on my best list. Make a movie or make a TV series, pick one.

It's actually the same - Oshi no Ko beginning was an example of the 2h special running on TV, but the actual time of the episode is 1h 22m.

But it's Toho - and they have the theaters just to make a short run of this episode as a theatrical preview and make money.
