I've had the Japanese BD box for some time, which has English as well as Japanese subtitles. Does anyone know if the US release uses the same English subtitles, or does it have a new / improved-upon translation?

The limited edition English edition was just the Japanese version repackaged with an English language booklet translating the packed in book. There was a later DVD version released in the U.S. but it is also from Aniplex so it is unlikely to have a different set of subtitles.
