This is kind of cool for this manga (even though it's volume 1) to finally get a complete release in North America. I would love to read this if I ever get a chance.

Just to cut anybody off in case someone tries to bring it up, this is NOT an incorrect thing to say. The manga that Viz released back in the late 80s & early 90s, despite also using the "Legend of Kamui" name, was actually Kamui Gaiden, which was the series Shirato made for Shogakukan, instead of for his own Garo magazine. D&Q is releasing the OG Kamui-den manga, which had previously never seen official English release before. I haven't read my first book yet, but I am seriously psyched to see this be given a complete release & will absolutely be buying each book as they come out. |

Absolutely, and I'd at least love to see an English release of Band of Ninja, the movie "adaptation" of Shirato's first notable manga, Ninja Bugeicho: Kagemaru-den from the 50s & 60s, which was equally as influential & popular with people at the time as Kamui-den was later on. Said movie, though, is literally just director Nagisa Oshima filming panels of the manga & putting voice, music, & sound effects over it, so it's possibly both "too anime" for a place like Criterion (which has released a lot of Oshima's works in the past, but not this) & "not anime enough" for places like Discotek or AnimEigo. |

I've seen Discotek was able to release the film that inspired the 1994 blockbuster, Speed on BD back in 2023 (although another distributor did this but in limited edition copies back in 2016). Actually, I could see Discotek or Shout Factory picking up Tales of the Ninja even if it's "not anime enough", I mean both Discotek and Shout Factory has picked up both anime and tokusatsu. I mean Shout Factory released this on BD in NA/US very recently. If Shout Factory is able to release a collection of old obscure tokusatsu films on BD, then maybe Tales of the Ninja could be releasable in the US if they wanted to get that film. If not them, then maybe Arrow Film could get this one, or a smaller lesser well-known distributor like for example the US distributor that was able to release the live-action sequel to the novel version of Whisper of the Heart on BD in the US. There's always distributors out there that are looking for obscure foreign titles that are quite a novelty, they want to make it known in the US. I'm hoping that particular film will one day find it's way into the US market. |

Band of Ninja has been given the rare official screening with English subs, though there are around three different cuts of the film (or varying lengths), but it's never been given an official release (physical or streaming) otherwise. |

No, it never had any official releases in the US on home video nor streaming. That's why I'm hoping that Discotek, Shout Factory, or even Arrow Film could pick up the home video right for it in the near future. |
