Just like Nichijou, City is a masterpiece. What really sets it apart from Nichijou is that it's MUCH more of an ensemble. The entire City is the cast and there is no shortage of character and gags there. The culmination of a later arc is an absolutely insane feat that spans 3 double page spreads, and the mad lads at KyoAni are going to animate it as evidenced by one of the trailers.
I can't recommend this manga enough.

Strong agree on the interconnectivity of the narrative. And IME that element only ever grows more and more pronounced with each new volume. It's hard for me to really articulate what makes CITY such an enjoyable read, myself -- but it absolutely does an impressive job taking the concept embodied in the title about as far as it can possibly go. It's not really a story so much as a fictional community, teased out one day at a time.

This is probably the element holding CITY back the most from having conventional appeal (not that it's a bad thing, by any means) -- not only is the cast huge, but no character really has any narrative prominence over any others. It's a huge ensemble, with no clear leads. Even just keeping track of each character's name and personality (nevermind relationships) from volume-to-volume was a bit of a chore, IME.
I expect this is where we'll see the most improvement with the anime adaptation -- with colors and voices it'll be a lot easier keep track of everyone, nevermind how much easier it'll be to follow everything when we're only waiting a week in-between episodes, rather than months between volumes.
