Does this game have a social aspect with NPCs? Or just centered on farming and commerce?

Every Story of Seasons game has the social sim aspect. So yes, you can make friends, get married, and have a baby.

Can you play with japanese audio? are there any dumb unnecessary name changes? Important information so I know if I can buy the localized version or if I gotta buy the japanese release

With named NPCs? Yes. With the generic visitors in town? No. But there's a rather charming system where you can press a button to "greet" passer-bys, which works for both. I make a habit of using it on the visitors, it feels good. (You can also use it on named NPCs for a quick greeting, but it doesn't give as many "relationship points" as taking the time to speak to them one-on-one.)

Japanese audio is an option. Names legally had to be changed because Natsume owns the old "Harvest Moon"-branded translation of this game (this version of Grand Bazaar features a brand new translation, top-to-bottom).

Sounds solid enough, but I'm curious just how grindy the game is, as that's usually the sticking point for me with these sorts of games. And god knows that after Fantasy Life i, I could probably do with something a bit... breezier.
