Does manga still get published in non-manga specialist magazines and mainstream regular newspapers?

Like for example Lady Snowblood was published in some Japanese Playboy publication IIRC as a bonus story to the main contents. I also remember some video game focused magazines had some chapters of an ongoing magazine or two as bonus fluff with a new chapter for said manga being included every next issue until the story finally ends. The early chapters of Astro Boy and other Tezuka works at the start of his career were in major newspaper chains in Tokyo that were weekly (some might have even been the daily front page big selling papers).

Do they still do this in Japan? Or have the days of Astro Boy in major Japanese daily newspaper and Lady Snowblood in non-manga focused magazines long gone?

Sure does! With You and the Rain, which recently got an anime, as well as other recent series like Ya Boy Kongming run in Weekly Young Magazine, which is an anthology magazine with a manga section and is best known for its gravure pinups.

While it's not exactly what you're looking for, some all-purpose magazines actually spin off their own manga magazines as well. Nicola, a younger-skewing fashion magazine (similar to Girls' Life), has the online Comic Nicola line for shoujo manga. The only licensed manga I could find currently running in there is Girl Crush, but they also publish Love on the Runway (not to be confused with Smile Down the Runway!) and some other titles.
