not surprised by this. after the unfortunate passings of both miwua and toriyama, more publishers are allowing their mangaka authors to get longer breaks. especially if the workload is taking a toll on their health.

here is hope that the author is able to rest fully

the last thing anyone wants to hear is him passing away as well

Well... maybe in general, although in this case... I think it would take away some of the moral quandaries about supporting the creator, y'know?

I can't be the only one thinking they'd prefer if his hiatus was a permanent one. He doesn't have to kick the bucket, but he could just, y'know, go away. Forever.

You retire with a completed series that almost kills you or you live long enough to have an indefinite hiatus.

The guy got arrested for having underage pornographic material, and told the police his preferred age of kid when he was getting arrested. It boggles my mind that people still support him.

Technically he did. Rurouni Kenshin finished properly back in 1999. Hokkaido is really just an epilogue he decided to write in 2017. This isn't a Hunter x Hunter situation imo. Although Berserk showed us manga can always continue even after a creator's passing if they have a system set up.

thats only because miwa had given his staff and successor advance drafts on how berserk will end. not every creation had that type of support. some series like shakugan no shana & zero no tsukaima got lucky they had a decent staff with them when their authors passed away, whereas others were not so fortunate!

prime examples are high school of the dead and GANGSTA which are more or less will be known as incoomplete due to the passing of their authors.

I assure you, author of Shakugan no Shana, Yashichiro Takahashi, is quite alive and well.

The Gangsta mangaka is still alive, she was just diagnoised with lupus. The mangaka drawer for HOTD is still alive, but his buddy partner who did the writing passed. But I still get your point.
