Just a little bit more, and it will have secured itself in the top five for a long time.

It already has. The last time they did an article on its Japan takings was just after the Obon break and the gap then was 5 billion.

I had thought they would need September to surpass the Titanic total, it's done it before the 31st.

And this is just the first move in the planned trilogy. Either this movie sets the all-time record and stays there because the sequels don't match it, or the place it holds in the top 3 doesn't last for long when the next two surpass it.

I don't think movie is going to dethrone mugen train for number 1 but I think it's pretty safe to say it will get to be number 2.

Mugen's "cheat buff" of being in theaters for almost an entire year and having near to 0 competition due to covid era was way too bbeneficial, infinity castle is not going to be able to surpass that.

Why do you think the gap was 5 billion? It was at 25.7b after Obon, Titanic was at 27.7b, the gap was 2b not 5b.

Anyway the film is going to be #2 in Japan and beat Mugen Train worldwide, the trend is getting pretty clear at this point.

Now I wonder, could the next two Demon Slayer movies gross even more than Infinity Castle and Mugen Train when they come out? I mean, I'm pretty sure the final Demon Slayer movie's hype is going to be massive, maybe even grossing a billion worldwide?

Anyway, related to what I said above, when the next two Demon Slayer movies will finally come out I'm pretty sure Titanic and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will still be the only live-action films in the Japanese Top 10 highest-grossing films list, and even then Harry Potter could be pushed out to the 10th place if another movie becomes a huge hit.

And well, since the news is that Infinity Castle surpassed Titanic, I think I'll try to find a connection between the two. Well, for starters, they both take place in the early 20th century, that's it Laughing But well, in Demon Slayer's Latin American Spanish dub there're a couple of VAs who also worked in Titanic's dub, for example, Gyomei Himejima is voiced by Gerardo Reyero who voiced Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton) in Titanic, and Jack's dub VA, Pepe Toño Macías, voiced the first demon who Tanjiro faced in a temple and also Genya's Kasugai crow, Hashibami.

topping mugan train in japan- probably no. movie was almost an entire year in theaters in japan and had near 0 competition because it was during covid era, infinity castle movies won't have those benefits. they will most likely beat mugen train worldwide but not in japan.
I think best case scenario for the franchise is for the top 4 all time grossing movies in japan to be demon slayer movies, with mugen train being the number 1.

Demon Slayer as a franchise is as powerful as a Hashira/Upper Moon!
