Uh, the most recent anime in the franchise is actually Roze of the Recapture.
Also, for those interested, this manga adaptation actually follows the events of the original TV anime instead of the movies. Apparently it's good.

oh really? I'll give this one read then.
I loved the original(ambiguous) ending of the original tv anime and begged the anime Gods for a sequel. Little did I know I wished on a monkey's paw when they decided to continue the franchise by retconning the original series of events.

Oh, I didn't actually think much of a manga adaption this late in the game but this actually makes it more interesting for me.
