No joke, I say this a bit. I'll be listening to music, think it sounds Symphogear-y, and lo and behold it's 90% chance Agematsu composing it (9% another Elements Garden staff and 1% chance it wasn't EG at all).
Also... Yayyy Maebashi reference. As someone who followed it from ep 1 and became a massive fan, I'm always happy when people sing (get the pun) its praises.
I've heard mixed things about Idol Precure, and had been wanting to get into Waccha because of the voice cast, so now I think I'll have to check it out if it does the idol stuff better. I hope I don't have to have seen previous Pri stuff to watch it, because I've only seen like 1 or 2 episodes of PriPara years ago.
Princession Orchestra is great fun with some incredible songs. Obviously it doesn't reach Symphogear's high but as a kid friendly alternative, it's still great. I really hope someone license it, despite the episode count.
I really gotta watch Dance with Devils some time. I saw a tiny bit when looking at... Probably the Pomeranian song. But I should really watch it. And continue watching SI-VIS. The first episode wasn't bad, and the thing that really appealed to me was, as Chris mentions, that it's a mixed gender group. There's just not enough mixed gender idol groups. Though I'm not sure what anyone in the group was doing musically beyond Siren. Hopefully future episodes will have the others contributing more than some vague backing singing and awkward dancing...

I admit I was unsure of the gender of that particular character on first sight until she turned up in Alicepia (which only girls from Earth can visit - no annoying Earth boys like Princess Ripple's little brother).
And of course Princession Orchestra is available with English fansubs by sailing the high seas (VPN and good anti-malware recommended), but understand that important people would be unhappy if ANN mentioned the possibility.

I have no idea why, but that entire clip of rescuing the shuttle makes me bawl my f---ing eyes out if I can't control myself.
Well, maybe it's 'cause it's one of the ultimate "here comes the cavalry!" moments in modern media. It's up there with "But there are more of us, Poe," as the Millennium Falcon flies one more time. Up there with Gandalf and Merry riding to save soldiers from a swarm of dragons. It's with Mighty Mo sailing out in "Battleship," even. (Bad movie, awesome scene.)
I don't have any better theories, so I'll go with that.

I think the music is part of it, because it's so dramatic and moving. Plus, the characters are so desperate about saving it.
Personally my favourite part is the passing comment on K-2 becoming the third highest mountain in the world. Makes me laugh every time.

I forgot to mention with Princession, but Meteor is one of my favourite characters ever. She's just so silly and fun that I actually start missing her in the gaps between episodes because I need her stupidness in my life. Luckily her songs are on Spotify including her best song, Jinsei wa Nagareboshi da☆彡, so I can get my daily Meteor fix. Seriously, everyone should go listen to that song. It's so insane.

That's another part of it, I think. Everyone's so sincere, and there's so much on the line. Wrings emotion outta people. [/i]

Best such moment is in the Yuru CampΔ Movie when Rin's Triumph develops an electrical fault and she gets the old Yamaha Vino 50 scooter out of storage (Konnichiwa!).

Where does that happen?

Does not work for me, because all I can picture is the Battleship New Jersey museum staff having to restrain curator Ryan Szimanski. Need at least 10 times the people to manage the boilers and turbines.

I take issue with her color scheme - makes me hungry for a lemon jelly filled pastry.

I don't remember which movie that was featured in, sorry. But I remember Gandalf riding Shadowfax and banishing all the dragons with great, blazing light from his staff, and escorting the troops to safety behind a holding's walls.

Musical anime, no mention of Nerima Daikon Brothers
Symphogear was great, but I didn't make it past the first episode of Princession Orchestra. Seemed like it was targeting too young of an audience for me.
I missed the announcement for Ghost Concert, so looking forward to checking that out in the future

Um, Nazgûl riding on fell beasts not dragons are what Gandalf drives off to rescue Faramir after the latter had been hit with a poisoned dart in the early stage of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Pippen rode with Gandalf from Rohan to Minas Tirith but would have been in the city as part of the Guard of the Citadel by this time, and Merry was riding with the Rohirrim behind "Dernhelm" (Éowyn in disguise).
From the book (canon) and not Jackson's travesty of an adaptation.

Somehow never heard of Dance with Devils before. Welp, straight to the top of my backlog it goes, anything mentioned in the same breath as Symphogear and Revue Starlight can't possibly be bad.
Can't recommend Maebashi Witches high enough. Arguably most tightly written anime this year, and overall legit AOTY contender. Princession Orchestra is admittedly more adjacent to PreCure than Symphogear (except for music, of course), but is excellent nonetheless. One minor thing about it I absolutely adore: have you ever watched magical girl anime and thought "are they stupid, finishers work 99% of the time, why not use them all the time", this one is for you! Despite having in-universe justification on why they actually can't do this all the time, girls here are filthy special move spammers.

There are songs in there I personally like better, but for me RADIANT FORCE is THE Symphogear song. And by the way, some people did the calculations based of perspective and character heights, and K-2 would actually become 5th highest mountain. So not only that guy was correcting Wikipedia instead of doing his actual job, he was also wrong at it, ha-ha!

Also, not sure if it counts, but since it does consist of both being magical and musical, I was hoping Looking for the Full Moon would have been mentioned somehow (considering its stateside home releases lately). But the entire article is mostly magical girl series/shows with an element of singing and action mixed together.
Not that's an issue, but yeah...Symphogear is peak action. And ditto for Princession Orchestra.

Full Moon has its own sort of lineage that goes back through Creamy Mami and the like to some of the origins of magical girl anime

Someone from King Records needs to read this article and comments and get a clue about licensing the show with English subtitle streaming.

One of my fave bits in Princession is when Meteor tries to use her special move at the very beginning of the fight. It's like, you know what, I so agree with you Meteor. Why not spam the strongest movie now and wipe them all out in one go. That's like using your biggest spell in a jrpg on the random mobs. Makes sense to me.
(Also love that fact about K-2!)

The first episode is basically a "set-up" episode (with me skipping that one and instead starting on episode 2 once I realized that the "second" Princess (i.e. Zeal, who is my favorite of the trio) is already in action in the first episode). As such, you shouldn't judge the series by the first episode and watch at least until the third girl shows up. This is especially true considering your Excel Saga avatar, as Nabeshin himself has storyboarded a number of episodes (and the show does contain references that will fly over younger viewers heads but will get a laugh from older viewers).
As for my opinions on Princession, this is definitely one of the main shows that I've been following this year, and definitely one that needs more love.
