RIP. Few can say they were in a Miyazaki flick, he can. And the dub he was on did something I hope more dubs would do if they ABSOLUTELY had to replace the music: Hire the exact same composer from the original version.
I loved Dawson's Creek too. No one had more iconic "Teenage angst".

I didn't know most of his work, but regardless, I'm sorry to hear of his passing. That's far too young. I hope, in my lifetime, we can see an end to cancer.

His death popped up on my smartphone via several mainstream news media app, and also on my email newsletters/alerts today. Beside being the voice of Pazu in Castle in the Sky, many people know him as Dawson. He is a big teen icon in the 90's, his death will hit every Gen X (late one) and Millennials very hard because of that. RIP

I think overall Castle in the Sky has one of the best English Dubs a Ghibli Film has and his Pazu is one of the main reasons. My thoughts are with his family (6 kids...) and may he RIP.

I mainly know him from Dawsons Creek (I watched the early seasons but grew out of it part way through) and the excellent Don't Trust The Bitch in Apartment 23 alongside Krysten Ritter where he co-starred as a parody version of himself (similar to Adam West on Family Guy).

Pre-requisite @#$% cancer for taking yet another stellar person far, far too soon.
RIP James Van Der Beek. My condolences to his family.

I didn't watch much of James Van Der Beek's work but I loved the Disney dub of Castle in the Sky which I agree was one of Disney's best Ghibli dubs and it's a movie I rewatch frequently and one of my favorites. That's way too young to go. RIP.

The window guy in Scary Movie?
He was already 21 when he played 15-yr-old Dawson. Some mates inadvertently became extras when they happened to be vacationing where Dawson's Creek went filming

My heart goes out to his family and everyone who loved him. I was hoping like hell that he would beat his cancer. Gone entirely too soon.

I never watched Dawson's Creek, but I watched Laputa so many times it's permanently etched into my brain. This really is a gut punch. That movies was my second time being exposed to Japanese animation (Yamato and Speed Racer first), and it's always been my favorite Miyazaki/Ghibli film. My condolences to his wife, children, family and friends. May he rest on that island in the sky.
