.hack is finally back? The timing is eerie, I’ve been marathoning the franchise recently.

That is a very interesting trailer. Is giving me "what if Morgana intervened directly" vibes. Will be interesting to see how this turns out in the coming year, when the last couple dotHack projects never released in EN territories, and were generally nightmare chimeras no one had asked for. Is this a reboot? A FF7R of the original? I'm hearing some very interesting things....

Today is a good day.

It is effectively a reboot. Hiroshi Matsuyama confirmed in a Famitsu interview that it doesn't have to do with any prior entries.
As its name implies, .hack//Z.E.R.O. is restarting the franchise from zero.

I admit, I do not know a lot about .//hack, but I do remember their anime adaptations, like SIGN, being quite popular back in the 2000s, I do remember them being aired on Animax back in the day. I do remember that its creators wanted to remake or rerelease some of their older titles, but executives at Bandai Namco weren't so sure the IP wasn't as popular as it once was.

Funny thing you mention FFVIIR, because CyberConnect 2 were originally in charge of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Project.

Super excited and I can already tell this is going to be very expensive! I try to buy all of the .hack games in every format I can get my hands on, including digital. I don't mind waiting for sales, but if they do special editions for every console... that's going to hurt.

I had to check, and you're right. He explicitely says 過去のシリーズと地続きになっていない ("It does not share a continuity with the past series"). I guess after New World's weird story, it's hard to come back to that...
.hack is one of my childhood obsessions. I love it so much. I'm excited for new content, but I don't want to say goodbye to the old continuity... ):

Cautiously optimistic. I was recently lamenting how .hack was dead in a period where isekai was king. Kite and Black Rose's new designs look nice. I just hope it's a legitimate and competent reboot and not a meta-sequel like FF7.

Huh. Can definitely see Kite, Black Rose, and Balmung. Wonder how they're gonna deal with modern net culture

Funny that we already had a .hack//Zero as a light novel series that got immediately cancelled (and I wish had more than just a machine translation out there, because I think the protagonist is a pretty compelling character)
But so far this is checking all the boxes I want, especially an increased focus on the dichotomy between real and virtual worlds by having real world segments be more than just e-mails and news reports. And as much as I love .hack's interwoven continuity, the overarching plot also was going pretty off the rails by Thanatos Report so I'm perfectly fine with a reboot that wipes the slate clean

Huh, Aura's looking more evil than I remember
Seems like it will be a new take on Infection and I wholeheartedly welcome it. The redesigns look pretty great, too.
I wonder how they will deal with the "MMO mechanics" and the whole rng areas thing in this entry.
Anyway --- It's been 3000 years...

The new Kite reminds me of Neku from The World Ends With You.

The Series that actually was the original founder of the trapped in the MMO Genre has finally returned.
Never had the chance to play the original games back in the day as i was only like 9 years when the first one came out and was too complicated for me to figure out.
I did watch the anime adaptation a few years later and loved it and wanted to give it a try but never had the chance. Should be the perfect excuse to to do now. I look forward to it.
