despite not being totally invested in horror things, i feel like modern resident evil, returnal and alan wake are three game series i can play that are horror-centric that i enjoyed. hell i even bought re4 and alan wake ii because i liked both games so much. might check out requiem sometime in the future, it's hard to when i don't have time.
seriously though, know it's off-topic, but out of all of the games i've mentioned, alan wake ii is probably my favorite horror game on that list, big recommend.

First person Resident Evil was always uninteresting so I wish they had a fix camera angle mode like the original games then maybe I would try it out. I assume by all the nostalgia baiting they mean the remakes of 2 and 3 and not the original games.

I’d hoped to get through the entire series before RE9 came out. I didn’t quite make it, but I did manage to clear: RE1, RE1 remake, RE2, RE2 remake, RE3, RE3 remake, RE4, and RE revelations. (I am almost done with the RE4 remake, too — the main holdup is RE5 which I really gotta force myself to play).
I was expecting RE9 to be pretty dang good, but I gotta say, these reviews make it sound even better than I’d hoped. Really excited to dive into this one tomorrow.

They’re never going back to the fox camera perspectives of the orignal 4 games.

The remakes have completely erased the original games in the minds of Capcom, who were 'bewildered' that anyone would still want to play those original games when the remakes offer such 'superior' experiences.

It is a bit disappointing to hear that by pulling from the past games just means the Ethan Winters era of games and the remakes and not deep cuts like Survivor, Gaiden, and the original 0-6 and Code Veronica. A culmination 'finale' of Resident Evil should include everything. I know Outbreak is at least acknowledged given Grace but I wonder how much of it is in the game beyond a name drop. This does make me wonder what's going to happen when they inevitable remake the other games now and create inconsistencies with any reference that are in this game when they change things.

I mean they do considering for example how more people prefer the remake of 1 over the original.

I recall game designer Shinji Mikami not liking how he ended making Resident Evil 4's plot. While Leon became one of the biggest stars in gaming thanks to RE4, his characterization highly changed into a charismatic joker who always pulls oneliners when facing the enemy. He was basically Dante. When the game was remade, Leon's characterization was revamped to feel more like a person suffering survivor guilt over RE2's events and whether or not he can trust Ada. He joked far less with the enemies too unless the pulls epic gameplay. Guess Capcom tried Leon to be more grounded in reality with the remakes.
