I’ve been wondering the entire current arc how they’d handle going to the next points in the timeline since Misaka is busy in the main series. The answer? …don’t I guess.

Yeah, I kind of figured this was coming... The Railgun manga has been on that flashback arc for years, and you could tell that was only because it would be difficult to continue the story in the present any further into the timeline without addressing a lot of stuff from Index.
Props to the artist for dedicating himself to this manga for nearly two decades! Wishing Fuyukawa the best from here on. |

Almost 20 years is really impressive. I’ll miss it, but hopefully now we can get a complete anime adaptation.

The Yen Press release of NT Volume 5 actually just came out a couple of months ago, and Volume 6 is currently up for pre-order for a July release. Anyway, the English release is very far behind. In Japan, Index NT concluded with 23 books total. Kazuma Kamachi is currently writing the third series, Index GT, which just recently released its 14th volume. So all told... Yen Press is currently 32 entire novels behind the Japanese release.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand there isn't really any story left to tell with these characters without a introducing a long running plot which is not in line with the manga's identity. On the other hand, I really wanted see the story head into the New Testament part of the timeline which is where the really interesting stuff occurs. Oh well.
It's just a shame that the manga never really reached the heights of the Daihaseisai Arc again. Dream Ranker Arc was just okay. Jailbreaker Arc could have been the best arc but ended on such a disappointing note that downright offended veteran LN readers. And the Flashback Arc just wasn't exciting considering the length of the arc. I've always enjoyed the manga as an accompaniment to the LN series as it was at its most interesting when there were developments that enriched the franchise as a whole. It hasn't done that for a long time now. |

Really feels like the end of an era. Railgun had gone on for so long it didn't even feel like a side story anymore.
We can still get all of that if they decide to go ahead with the Kuroko spinoff Railgun was originally supposed to transition to. |

Honestly I think the best part of this news for me is we can now have a gauge on how much anime is left, assuming season 4 is gonna be another 2 cour and they don’t rush things, then I would assume they just need one more season after that to finish the whole manga so it actually should be possible for us to get a complete adaptation here. Also, this might be wishful thinking, but maybe once they’re officially out of Railgun THEN we’ll finally get the next season of Index. Obviously there’s no guarantee there, hell I wouldn’t be shocked if just the overall disappointment in season 3 has been what is preventing another season, but it would still be nice.

IIRC, the Railgun T anime ended with the conclusion of the Dream Ranker Arc. (So I assume that the announced-but-not-scheduled 4th season will be the Jailbreaker Arc?) How far into the manga does that put the animation? |

I got into "A Certain Scientific Railgun" franchise through the anime, but I don't remember what I watched first, the Railgun or Index. Believe it was Railgun, since I liked the futuristic background and the Railgun characters seemed at the time to be more popular than Index. Hard to be sure since the anime is a little older than 15 years ago.
I need to rewatch the first season, and make sure I have the other seasons on BD too. OVA I will probably have to get online. I like Index too. I need to give both series a bit more love and make sure I have all the anime locked down in my Time Vault. |
