OK, I wonder how this will come out and given the rising popularity of Webtoon that is even rivaling manga in the west, I expect this strategy to either succeed or fail.

I know, but there are panic in Japan amongst manga publishers that webtoons are eating through manga sales globally despite the friendly cooperation. That's because of K-pop, and K-drama are doing massive work to get people to read the webtoon/manhwa even to those that have never read manhwa/webtoons and manga before. So you do have growing audiences that never read Japanese manga (unless that webtoons reader in the US was able to crossover to manga) but are willing to read webtoons. And I'll cite this article from 2022 as a source. |

Really this just sounds like the Creative Arts grants that are offered in Canada where they're meant to help creators get a living wage and educate them so that they don't sign bad contracts and it's not about competing with big publishers. |

Manga: Japanese Manhwa and webtoons: Korean (for webtoons, it's usually of South Korean origin) Manhua: Chinese (and probably could applied this to Taiwanese too). Hope that helps for our newer younger audiences. |
