Having started really getting into anime back when Sailor Moon was just showing up on TV over here, I suppose sightings like this still set off some sort of "wow, in the wider world!" reaction in me before I try and remind myself people in general are much more aware of the subject these days. After seeing the stuffed Artemis myself I did notice a later shot of Mission Control where it wasn't on display, so it might have been brought in by one specific person on a particular shift.

I’m the same way. It only hits you that it’s been a while since those shows debuted and their fans are everywhere. The guy even had a Sailor Moon lanyard on his neck.

Most likely it was brought in by astronaut Stanley G. Love who was also seen wearing a Sailor Moon neck strap during launch and he's also apparently known to be a major anime fan. https://x.com/ohnuki_tsuyoshi/status/2039937446415401033
