Real juxtaposition in the opening of a shot of Raoh and Ken facing off that actually looks pretty good (people speculating it might be Hayama, which would be really cool), followed immediately by Yuria looking like she stumbled out of a Shadow of Memories for the PS2 cutscene
But man, between this and Fist of the Blue Sky: Regenesis it's rough, Tetsuo Hara's art is way too beautiful to deserve this |

One thing I don't like about all these anime remakes is they use different songs for the OP's and to a point ED's. I'm sorry but Ai wo Torimodose!! is just too iconic to be replaced. I don't care if you remix it or use a different singer just use it. At least the Urusei Yatsura remake had a BGM remix of Lum's Love song.
As for the animation well I just think there are more studios then TMS suited for this project. David Productions would have been ideal. |

Could be my love of the manga talking, but this is the best the 2D/3D mixing has been so far, minus those shots of Yuria it doesn’t look too bad.
The music is Ok but they NEED to bust out the old tracks for big fight scenes. Shaman King figured that out. |

I am really trying to keep an open mind about this, as I have so much love and affection for these characters and this story, but this just doesn't seem to be working. The animation just looks cheap to me, the directing is awkward, and the art direction doesn't fit the material. Or maybe I'm just to familiar with it and nothing will come close to the vision of it in my head.
If you've seen the original series, this is a classic story that could use an upgrade. The original suffered from pacing issues due to how shows were produced at the time and had really really cheap production values at first (until it got more popular). But it did have awesome songs. I put this trailer on mute pretty fast. Which also may just be "old man yells at cloud". |
