meaning users would have to wait at least two additional weeks to access the latest content through unauthorized sites.

now I am just going to go out on a limb and say...for people who sail the seas "two weeks longer" is nothing if it saves em $.....

I know many people who wait to see films in theaters until few weeks after out because they get down to half the price of a normal ticket. Time seems to be w/e for the people who dont wanna pay for stuff.

Naver WEBTOON revealed on Wednesday its anti-piracy system “Toon Radar” has led to a significant increase in paid transactions on its Korean service, as improvements in preemptive blocking technology delay the spread of illegal copies.

According to the company's “Q1 2026 Toon Radar Report,” the number of titles illegally uploaded to domestic piracy sites within 24 hours of release dropped by about 90% by the end of the first quarter compared to the beginning of the year. The reduction is attributed to enhanced anti-piracy measures that have made unauthorized copying more difficult.

Quote:

Most notably, the company identified a direct correlation between delayed piracy and increased revenue. Across 10 major titles that experienced strong anti-piracy effects, average paid transactions rose by 23% when illegal uploads were delayed beyond the first 24 hours. Some titles saw increases of up to 60%.

Correlation does not imply causation. They're leaving out a ton of details and have shared absolutely nothing that proves the data sets are even related.

Meanwhile we already have decades of data (from unbiased studies) showing that people who pirate either do so because they have no means of purchasing the product or wouldn't do it no matter what. A 2 week delay isn't going to make pirates buy things. This report is propaganda to justify the costs they spent on anti-piracy measures. More realistically, as has always been the case, they spent more on the anti-piracy measures than they were actually losing in "lost" sales (which is $0, because again, people who pirate still wouldn't have bought it if the pirated copies didn't exist)

related article on this topic but was targeted video games. the results apply to all markets with the exception of theatrical releases but that market is also very different now than when the studies were done: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/eu-commission-no-evidence-that-piracy-affects-video-games-sales#:~:text=Published%20on%20Sept.,a%20lengthy%20307%2Dpage%20report

I already said that piracy sites cannot fight with AI system unless you build an AI urself, coding won't save you longer...but to build an AI system needs huge investment...the end is near for piracy...

doomsayer much?

If the music & film industry hasn't stopped piracy for decades then the manga/manhwa/manhua/webtoon industry has no chance.

bad actors are always going to outperform the good guys because they outnumber em and when one falls more take their place.Only way one will ever stop piracy is implementing draconian laws that identify every upload tied to a persons internet ID.

Its already happening, many users went jail, some left county still got behind the bars, that's not only..then their family wives, children's got socially humiliated...and now even online piracy hunter released, if u snitch piracy website yo u can win Netflix, or gift vouchers...also with new law if company show huge loss cloud fare forced to show uploader's real name address and bank details ...its not easy now...because 4-5 countries invested miillion dollars in it...
