Let's Go Kaikigumi (TV) Source: Manga (completed @ 5 volumes by Byū) Demographic: Animation Studio: C-Station Genres: comedy, horror, supernatural Themes: ghosts, school, spirits, youkai Plot Summary: One fateful day, the cowardly (unnamed) protagonist meets Mechako, the leader of the "Kaikigumi" organization. The Kaikigumi is in charge of the ghosts and supernatural creatures scaring humans. The protagonist somehow takes part in the revival of the Kaikigumi, after which one bizarre (yet not scary) phenomenon after another crops up around him. This is a deeply goofy show. How goofy? Well, when told of a rumour that there was some unseen force that was making people crap their pants near a certain location, our nameless protag decides to drop a deuce right then and there so that if something does appear, it can't make him crap himself since he'll have already voided his bowels. Yep, some pretty sophisticated wit here. Ah, that's fine, goofy can work for me. I'll try some more. |

The description of that joke mostly warded me away from the show, but I decided to give it a try, where I discovered that the joke you described is entirely a creation of the localization, to avoid a pun. (his buddy basically says "something comes out" which is how you describe ghosts. So he says if he craps himself, that's also "something coming out," so the logic works out without there being a ghost.) Which ironically made me a lot more willing to give it a shot.
