Hey, I just finished watching Eureka 7, and I must say that it is one of the best anime that I have seen in a long time (indeed, it's the only newer anime that I like). It would have been easier to take seriously at the beginning if the main character was not 14, but as the series goes on and the characters develop, the kid matures a bit. And, as I was thinking earlier, it really wouldn't have worked if he was older. Also, just as the series would reach it's critical Angst limit, it would save itself and relieve the situation.
All in all, I would say that it is very well written.
The music as amazing, as well--I think I'm going to go out and buy the OST' s as soon as I have money.
And at 50 episodes, it is neither too short nor too long.
I'm not really fond of giant robot anime in general, but this is not your typical GR series.
What does everybody else think?
and, on another note...I'm back ^_^

My whole problem with Eureka 7 is that it really isn't a mecha series, yet it touts around like it is one. Characters cry every 2 minutes, established character traits are flat out ignored (see: Moondoggie) making for a very generic one dimensional crew, and those who talk about how great the few mecha battles in the show actually are to be fair the LFOs have done nothing that the the Veritechs from Macross haven't so I'm pretty unimpressed. It's funny to me how people keep talking about how weak and what a crybaby Shinji is, I think they need to take a look at Renton since he's much worse. Not only that but I feel the plot moves way too slowly and because of the weak cast it is not able to support that method of storytelling (however many will disagree).
To be honest, I think they took everything in the wrong direction. I really think that if Eureka 7 was a sports anime (which I really thought it was when I first saw pictures), and concentrated on the sport of lifting it would have been much more entertaining. But no, instead it has to go the standard route laid out by Gundam only the characters cry themselves an ocean in the process.
And don't even ask me how in the heck these guys publish a magazine. Given the crew's actions, motives, and limited resources I think it's too farfetched and even ridiculous despite the fact that it's an anime.
Also as a side note I've been following the Adult Swim run, so I have about 10 episodes left.

My overall impression with Eureka 7 was that it was pretty good, but it could have been much better. It seemed like the story was sacrificed in favor of trying to not scar the widdle shounen. A few examples of problems I had with the series:
Mecha OR surfing, not mecha AND surfing -- Was I the only person who thought it a little odd that huge mechanical robots would traverse the skies with...surfboards? Personally, I think the creators were trying to add in too many "cool" elements and forgot about things like, oh, plausibility.
Deus ex machina like whoa -- Given the situations the characters often found themselves in, more of them should have died. Heck, ANY of them should have died.
Bait & switch -- So the entire show was full of all this tension because if certain events actually came to pass, it would be TEH END OF THE WORLD!!! And then when events came to pass, it...didn't.
Don't get me wrong; I did like many things in the series, such as the "Golden Bough" references and the music, but maybe it's because I did like parts that it makes it more frustrating that the show didn't turn out better. Unused potential and all that.

Tracelimit174 is right its more of a romance than a mecha anime. Futhermore, did not understand two episodes, one was about soccer and how Renton never past the ball to anyone what kind of crap was that. And the other episode was about how misunderstood what Renton and Eureka was saying and the crew thought they were talking about sex. Also, those two episodes did not have no mecha action in its and its was flat out boring. I do not know what Bandai was thinking when they name this a mecha.

tracelimit--alright, I can give it to you that some of the characters are pretty one-dimensional, but I guess that didn't bother me so much. And I didn't know that it was being advertised as a mecha series (I have no TV and see no advertisements for anything, outside of the newspaper; I came to E7 by someone recommending it to me); had I known that, I probably wouldn't have checked it out
