I am interesting in reading Robot, maily for the prospect of reading an in-colour manga, but I'm a bit concered with some of the reviews it's had.

Some people have said the art is fantastic and the stories are great, others have said the stories are fractured and incomplete and some of the art is reall poorly done compared to others... The reviews seriously contrast eachother.

The cover art attracted me to it, and of course the name - I love stories about androids.

Why exactly did these such opposing oppinions come about? What is it that appeals or does not appeal to readers of this book?

And how many pages roughly does each story have? Or does each artist have?

Thank you ^_^

(Sorry if this is a repeat topic, I'm on the world's slowest dial up and can't look at the following pages to see if there's already a response - the internet keeps going down ><; )

The problem I have against it is that it's lolitastic, in the worst way.

I only bought the first volume, which should tell you something. The art is stunning in more-or-less every story/entry, and the collection is best sold as an artbook. There are a few gems (a couple of nice slice-of-life tales in particular), but for the most part the writing comes off as amaturish, which makes sense considering most contributers are animators by proffesion, not manga-ka. I don't really regret buying it though, as the good stories and the artwork make warrent a second (or third) glance though. Worthwhile if you if you want some eye-candy, but there are much better anthologies out there if you like American comics.

What exactly do the last two volume have in them? I know Murata's artwork always has the moe-thing going on, but do other stories get explicit?

As I recall, its just the same particular story that is a problem. Another story starts in #2 that has a bunch of little girls, but it lacks the sexual elements.

For the most part, I enjoyed it. I liked seeing manga told in color for once, but few of the stories actually did anything that required color. Most of the stories could have just as easily been done in short story form in traditional black and white. Much of it is mostly an artbook. Albeit, a very pretty and very well put together artbook. I'd recommend borrowing it if you could. Some of the stories are truly worthwhile and very touching, some are kind of shock value and pretty out-there. But if you like avant garde, then it might just be worth it to you. I only bought the first volume so far, but I do plan to buy the next one to decide if I want to continue it. It's just a little expensive....
