I watched Hunter X Hunter long ago but I never forgot the story. I was having a chat with a friend when I noticed that her avatar is a picture of Hunter X Hunter. I suddenly remembered that I have never watched the episodes where Gon and Killua were at Greed Island. Can anyone please tell me what happened there? I watched a little, but I can't remember. I would like to watch it, but even the summary is enough for me. Thanks.

I'll try not to say anything that would lessen the fun of watching it, as they were some of my favorite episodes, but the whole point is that there isn't a lot of plot progression here.

spoiler[They join the game looking for clues to Gon's father, but there weren't any in the game as it turned out. Inside the game they meet Bisque (who is 58 but looks like a little girl), the one who taught Wang nen, and she trains them into much more refined nen users. By the time the game ends, Gon and Killua are pretty advanced nen users who can win (albeit with some rather elaborate tricks and traps) against some absolutely top tier nen users. During this time, the Spiders find their Jyonen user (a nen user who can remove Kurapica's curse on the boss). The series ends when the game ends and Gon casts a spell (something he got from the game) that should take him to his father.]

Ugh, Greed Island sent the series completely downhill, in my opinion.

The artwork got too clean for its own good, losing that vintage quality that made the series so endearing to me. I mean, everything went digital from the paint to the outlining and just really felt over-saturated in comparison to the TV and Spider OAV series.

Then, throw in the whole spoiler[ wanna-be MMORPG theme with some of the dumbest and most uninspiring character designs (I still say that one gym teacher or whatever with the squinty eyes looked like a Korean on steroids, and that "hitman" hired by the guy bidding on the game looked like Dabura from DBZ, minus the pink skin and blue suit). I also didn't care much for "Biscuit" (what the hell kind of name is that anyway?!) Despite some of the comedy s/he brought to the series, that whole Chyna transformation was absolutely the most grotesque thing I've seen in any shounen series, period Shocked. Oh, and those opening songs had such a weak-ass singer Mad...]

Yeah, I'd have just stopped at the first OAV had I known it would turn out that way. And supposedly, it goes even further than this in the manga, right?

I have yet to see the Hunter x Hunter anime its been on my list for a while but I haven't really gotten to it. From what I can understand Hunter x Hunter(the anime) is toned down in comparison to its manga counter part. spoiler[ I just picked up Volume 15 of the series and needless to say I could not stop laughing because of how Biscuit made Gon and Killua goto the town(sorry can't remember its name) and back many times to train their Nen abilities. Then Killua had to leave for a bit to take the Hunter exam in which he finally got his license after beating everyone in the room(all 400+ competitors) in a half hour Laughing .]

I've only read the manga and only what has been released in the U.S. (which is volume 15). I'm liking Greed Island at the moment (I like Biscuit) and I don't think its gone downhill, at least not in story. The art is a different story. Back when I was collecting the early volumes, I had heard how the art was getting worse and worse to the point that it was just sketches and it was pathetic. And now the manga is on indefinite hiatus. To be honest, I don't think the HxH manga will ever start up again ( which also means there won't be any more of the anime, for anyone hoping for that), so I probably won't bother collecting the manga past the Greed Island arc (I'm guessing it will end around volume 18).
