Old news really. Viz cut a deal with WB to promote their titles on the show. The main character sports a Ryoga t-shirt-both in pig and human form-he has a Vagabond poster on his wall, he talks about Gundam Wing, and someone buys him an Uzumaki manga.

Is that for real? The first I've heard of it. Very Interesting. What's next, Joey and Dawson kicking back watching some Cowboy Bebop.
Oh and while we are the on the subject of WB programming, Dawson's Crekk used to be cool, but then got REALLY stupid.
...sorry about that folks, but I had to throw that in...

Hopefully, the character's (I haven't seen it yet, but I noticed the P-chan/Ryouga T-shirt in the promos they were airing on Canadian TV back in July) devotion to anime will have more of a bearing of the plot than that of Malcolm in Malcolm in the Middle... did they ever mention Nazca in the show itself? I thought that originally, Nazca was supposed to be Malcolm's favourite programme (ah, 2 words in a row spelt the Canadian way), but I don't recall Malcolm ever actually mentioning it or watching it. (Of course, I wish it was a better show than Nazca, but that's besides the point.)
On a vaguely related note, the Conan O'Brien eyecatch image with his head on a Gundam isn't new... I remember seeing it in the mid-90s.

Right on, Tenchi, I remember that eyecatch too.
So is that the name of the anime they show in the opening credits for MIM? I always wondered what that was.
ANyway, supposedly in Good Will Hunting, there is a scene where Matt Damon is watching Ghost in the Shell (I can't say for sure, I have never seen the movie.
Although I have to say the best anime reference (and few people seen this) is the parody of anime on the short-lived Clerks cartoon series. "BIG AMERICAN PARTY!", "AXEL FOLEY AND JUDGE REINHOLD!"
That episode still cracks me up

Also, in the line-up at the convention at the beginning of Clerks episode 6, there's a fat Sailor Moon. But I think a greater percentage of people on anime message boards and newsgroups have seen the Clerks animated series than in the general public as a whole. I understand the 2-disk DVD set was a big seller.

Appearently, my sister went to a Limp Bizkit concert last year and there was a very large Gundam as part of the set, I saw a picture of it... I think it may have been Mk.II, don't remember... anyone remember? Yeah, I was wondering about the 2 clips in the opening of Malcom as well, thanks for the enlightening.

Anyone who watches South Park would also recall the Rosie O'Donnell / Akira scene, which was done pretty well considering the art format of the show. FLCL even returned the favour in one of their episodes
